Really nice. Are Postal Orders the same thing as the Postal money orders that we have in the U.S.? It seems that the ones from Zimbabwe are for unusually high dollar amounts.

David,
To a certain degree, yes, they are like postal money orders in the sense that they are both used as ways of transferring money.Postal orders are very much like banknotes in terms of their designs, but a postal money order & money orders are very much like cheques.

Postal orders were declared legal tender as currency during the 2nd. Boer War (1899-1902) by both the Orange Free State & the South African Republic.Great Britain declared their postal orders to be legal tender during both World Wars.

The Zimbabwean notes aren't postal orders. They are actual banknotes. The highest denomination that is in circulation in Zimbabwe is the $10,000,000 Bearer Cheque.I wouldn't be too surprised if Zimbabwe has stopped issuing postal orders though,as the Zimbabwean Dollar is worth nothing in real terms.I do have a few postal orders from both Rhodesia & Zimbabwe, including a Rhodesia Remainder Issue postal order in my collection as well.

Aidan.
