This is a 10 Bolivar coin issued only in 1973 for general circulation in Venezuela. It commemorates the 100 year anniversary of the portrait featured on the obverse, that of Simon Bolivar, champion of Venezuelan independence. The anniversary is not of the man, but of this particular portrait, which was designed by the frenchman Désiré-Albert Barre in 1873, and has remained virtually unchanged on Venezuelan coinage to present day.
What I like most about the coin is that it is convex on both sides, with the portrait and coat of arms incuse. The denticles are also incuse, giving the appearance of a rim. A bit unusual, obviously they were not too concerned about stacking them. Diameter 39 mm, weight 30 g.
