(**Note, this poster showed a man crawling out of the screen. But this movie was nothing like this; in fact, it is more like a slow long drama. And in the poster, it stated Beyond these pages lies the truth".
What truth? The movie was not about "truth"or anything that related to the tagline above. )

PLOT:
A young couple went into a book store to find "the perfect gift" for their friend. A man that worked in this bookstore brought the couple back to the "back section" of the bookstore. He started to pick three different books out and told stories about it. At the end, the couple cannot decide which book to get for their friend. So, they look into the book shelf one more time. They saw another section of books and picked up a book and it was BLANK!
They were never seen again.
REVIEW:
This movie was phony and boring. The movie's title was "Tales from Beyond" but there was nothing really beyond or dark about this movie. There were five installments in this film,
(this doesn't not go in order of the film)
1.) Abernathy--about a man’s journey to death
2.) Life Replay--about a remote that could control time
3.) Lex's Dinner--about man who walked into a mysterious dinner only to meet some time-travelers.
4.) Fighting Spirit--a boxer trying to win a match.
5.) Ending (The Bookstore)--Ending
The first one was about a man that has a bad relationship with his wife and he was trying to solve their problems. Throughout the movie, the main character kept on dreaming and visiting this place call "Abernathy. In one scene, the man walked in front of a door and the beside the door was written "Abernathy". He walked in and there was a little boy in the house. He followed the boy and the boy eventually disappeared. Then he encountered a group of male that seemed to be mentally ill. After few dreams, the man finally committed a suicide.
And at the end, "Abernathy" was a funeral home’s name and that the whole segment of this movie man was going though death.
This segment of the movie was BAD. I thought it could have been done better. This type of storyline of was done over and over again; there was nothing original about it (in fact it was lame). The people in this movie tried TOO HARD to make it dark, and the actors does not seemed to be committed to their parts. I regretted that I had rented this movie! I always tried to open my mind and sight to new things, like indie films and a lot of unknown titles.
But this movie was plain disappointment.
I had to give some credit to one of its segment in this film which was "Lex's Dinner". It wasn't as bad as the other segments; the worst one was "Fighting Spirit" (it was just plain drama and it made the audience think something interesting might happen, but nothing really happens).
"Lex's Dinner" was about a dinner that time travelers from all different eras meet. Important figures like Cleopatra, Julius, cave man and a lot of historic characters were introduced in this dinner. One day, a normal man walked in the dinner for lunch and while he was there. One by one, the time traveler came into the dinner and the man started to talk to them. The time traveler explained to him that they were all here to discuss and share knowledge. But they cannot expose any historical information because it would disrupt the time and space. So, the man became frustrated and told Julius that the would be killed by one of his man and his empire would fall apart. Then he marched out of the dinner.
Outside the dinner, it was deserted. The dinner, his car and the people were no longer there. The man just stood in the desert and screamed.
Throughout “Lex’s Dinner” I couldn’t stop laughing due to the fact that one by one, first was a Victorian lady, then a space/futuristic woman came in and just the whole set up was strange and waggish.
Rent it if you want to see supernatural drama with a twist of comedy.
It felt long, boring, exhausting; but it's a good start for a indie flim.
