THE STORY:
Long ago, a woman in Mexico had an affair with a man. Unfortunately, the man left her. The woman was distressed and thought the reason that her lover left her was because of her two young children. So, she drowned them. But still the man refused to commit to this woman. So, she tried to kill him but ended up getting herself killed . This movie was about the legend of "La Llorona". (La Llorona means "the crying woman")
A group of friends took a trip to Mexico for vacation. When they arrived in Mexico all the cheap hotels were booked. So a Mexican local taxi driver overheard the traveler's conversation about their "hotel situation"; so he suggested a local cabin house that was cheap. The group of friends decided that it would be a great idea to stay in a cabin for their vacation. When they arrived, the taxi driver warned them NOT TO DROP OR BREAK anything in that cabin or else....
Later a couple (friends) broke the mirror in the cabin; the horror now begins!
REVIEW:
The movie quality was standard but the ending of the film was unpredictable in a very “obscure way“. I personally don’t think it would ruin your movie experience if I have told you the end of this film. The group of friends stayed in the cabin and partied. And of course, someone breaks the rule of the cabin (which was warned by the taxi driver). A couple broke a mirror and a cabinet in a room in the cabin. And immediately the wailer came out and ripped the man’s head and back out. From the look of the scratch it looked like an animal scratch; but apparently it was the scratch of “La Llorona”. So the whole group panicked after they saw their friend dead body, which was normal human reaction. In this film, they showed us that the group were on drugs and drunk the whole time. So the reality of the picture could be distorted by their influences.
The whole movie plot was mediocre, but what I found most interesting was after the couple broke the mirror, she immediately came out and killed him . After he got killed, the group decided they would leave the cabin and get help. But they couldn’t open the window or the door; plus the outside was complete darkness as if nothing were out there and that they were all alone in the cabin’s own dimension of sort.
In the beginning of the movie (before they came to the cabin), one of the girl from the group had a local Mexican boy to draw a picture of her. When she saw the finished drawing of her, she realized that the little local boy had drawn a rosary around her neck in the drawing; but she wasn’t wearing one at the time. Forward an hour to the movie, after 3/5 of her friend’s death. She found the rosary in the cabin and the “La Llorona” seemed to want it. After she dropped the rosary in front of “La Llorona” she left them alone. They (her and her boyfriend from the group) jumped out the window into the darkness and they found themselves outside of their cabin in the morning. She woke up beside her boyfriend and he was dead! The way they showed the boyfriend’s death was a scratch on his face; which medically could NOT kill a person but he was dead in the movie. The only survivor “Julie” ran away from the cabin and saw the taxi driver driving up. So she went towards it and the taxi driver ran franticly into his car and took out his first aid box out. I thought he was going to cure her or help her since she was all bloody and hurt. Surprisely, he took up a pistol and started to load it. At this point I was utterly confused; in my mind he should be saving her since he was the one who putted them into this morbid situation. After a minute, Julie came up and scratch the taxi driver in the face and he died. She looked at the car mirror and realized that she became the “LA Llorona” !
The ending wasn’t sensible and they could have made a better decision about the plot choices. How was she the “La Llorona”? The original legend of La Llorona originated in Spain, where her husband got seduced by a Spanish woman in Spain. And she found out that he was going to abandon her so she stabbed her two babies in the heart and threw them into the water; then she died. In additional, the acting in this movie was extremely unbelivable, except the main character Julie and her boyfriend were standard.
