"Well, is that alright with you, Haruka-san?" stressing on the 'san' part. When she saw Mizuki, Kei, and Akino join them, Ruika glared at them for a moment.

"More people, what joy~. Hm, guess that'd make life more.. well interesting..." she thought to herself.

"I'm not gonna even ask how you guys showed up here," she smirked before continuing. "but, guess we have A judge, I suppose. How 'bout another? Alex, how long are you keep standing there?"

A puzzled Alexei walked to where everyone else was. "Ruika, how exactly did you know I was there?"

"Simple. I heard you. You KNOW I have good hearing." was Ruika's blunt reply.

"Oh."

"Anyway, Alex. Since you obviously heard everything, you should be a judge too. Before you guys and Alex even ask me why, I'll tell you. As long as I've known the guy, he's not the biggest fan of classical music, hence it's hard to impress him; even I've had problems impressing him. Unless he thinks the piece is really, incredibly played well, he won't like it. And by the way, he's NEVER heard me play that piece. So, what do you think?"

Alexei sighed. "Fine. If it's alright with you guys, I'll do it. And believe me, I WON'T be bias; we're not even close. And, it REALLY does take a lot for a classical piece to impress me. If it were jazz, that'd be a whole~ different story." He added that last part in his mind.

"Right now, I might not be that reliable. One day, maybe I'll be able to help. Things can't be the same as they were before, but there's this kind of feeling that's linking us together. I don't think we're living in different worlds."

OOC: lol, it took me quite some time to search the song by Paganini, lol, lucky me. I found the clarinet version. w00t! XD Goodness, I haven't touched music for a long time so it'll be a challenge for me if I were really to play such a piece. >.<

From all those patronizing remarks Haruka was receiving, she could tell none of them would ever think she would be victorious. She'll show them something about the phrase "expect the unexpected."

"Sure, let them be the judges. In fact, all three of you guys can be judges. I have confidence in myself and my ability in playing the clarinet. There isn't one piece of music out there that I haven't tried yet with my favorite instrument unless it's very new. Paganini's Caprice 24 of 24 Caprices is one of the pieces I practice. All I need to do is memorize it, but then again, I've already memorized half of the whole piece. It may be true that Paganini's original Caprice 24 of 24 Caprices is made for violinists but I'll be more than happy to let you hear the magical sound of that same piece with the clarinet in B flat Major," Haruka replied. Excellent, this was just excellent; Ruika chose a piece that was not mainly for clarinets which was to be expected.

It was a good thing she chose to practice pieces that were originally for other instruments too otherwise this duel would've been a lot harder to win. This was going to be a piece of cake; she just had to memorize it now. Of course, this did not mean she wasn't going to practice this piece once she memorizes it. After all, practice makes perfect!

Haruka turned to look at Mizuki and said, "Two days later, you'll hear the best music coming out of a clarinet. I won't disappoint you." Then to Alex, "You'll probably end up loving classical music after you hear it from me."

Her eyes, then, moved to Akino, "Akino-kun, you may think what you want of me but Ruika Novikov isn't just rumored to be the prodigy. If you really want to know more about her..."-looks at Ruika-"why don't you ask her yourself?"

Haruka beamed at them, "I'll see you in class, Akino-kun and I will be waiting for the day of the duel, music prodigy!" With that, she walked away.

OOC: Oh gosh, is Haruka the antagonist here? X_X I hope you guys don't hate her too much yet... ...errr....too late? ^^;;

OOC: Mizuki doesn't! Mizuki hates Ruika. Mad

IC: "Classical music?!?" Mizuki cried, making the scene much more dramatic then it was.

"Kei likes classical music." Akino thought aloud.

"Classical music is no fun! It's dull and it's boring and it makes me fall asleep."

"Those are lullaby's."

"And there's nothing special about them! Happy music makes people happy!! Eh? What about Kei?"

"He'd make a good judge, don't you think?"

"..." Mizuki stared at Akino like he was insane, "Yeah, if you want everyone's self-confidence in the vicinity to shatter into a thousand tiny pieces that can never be recovered." Akino sweatdropped.

"That's a good point... See you in class Asazaki-chan!"

"Beside's, he's a regular student." Mizuki interuppted with a sigh, "As much as I hate listening to classical music compared to modern, I'd still make a better judge. I actually study these things." Mizuki folded her arms. She disliked how confident the two girls were. It was called modesty. Even Mizuki had it, and that was saying something. But, keeping it too herself, she simply watched Akino be a dork and go on and on about Kei's "hidden musical talent".

"He's in his last year of high school. It's a little too late for that."

Akino sweatdropped and hung his head, "Mizuki-chan, you're so negative."

"Novikov-senpai... er..." Mizuki sweatdropped too. Presently, there were actually two Novikov-senpai's.

"Whatever. Ruika-senpai, you play the violin, right?" Not waiting for a response, Mizuki pointed at the viola case in her hands, "Then why are you carrying a viola around?"

"She's a prodigy. Probably knows how to play viola too." Akino shrugged, fanning himself with his music book.

Mizuki shrugged, "Prodigy is such a boring word."

"Hey," Akino looked up at Ruika, "You know the other guy who was here before? I'd say that it's not hard to avoid him, since he avoids everyone else, and he's in the regular department, but you might want to stay away from him. He's doesn't like people... who are um... prodigy's. If that makes sense."

"What was that about me?" Kei's annoyed voice said flatly as he held a half eaten melon bread in his right hand.

Akino jumped nearly sky high, with Mizuki watching in awe as his soul floated out in a puff of white smoke.

OOC: Hahaha, ever seen that happen in anime? When their soul floats out in that white puff of smoke? xDD Sorry for the crap post, but I guess I'm not used to RPing like this.

((She seems like it at the moment. ^^; The info I saw on it wow~ geez, it's a hard piece; dunno how hard it is on clarinet, but definitely is on violin, even for very experienced players as it mentioned. Wow, beat me. I fixed it a tad and btw, Hanabi, I think you made a slight mistake in your 1st OOC post. XD))

I hope it was worth getting challenged by you, Haruka-san. Even if there is a version of that song for whatever instrument you play as I still don't know what it is. I know Paganini himself didn't write those Caprices besides for violin but any other varations would have been written by other composers. I know that much. In any case, don't be over confident. And I'm not just saying it; I really mean it. I know what it's like to be over confident, or rather seen it for myself. You don't realize how much over confidence, even with talent can damage you. She thought as she saw her walk away. As for the people that she was with... whole different story.

"The viola's Alex's. I do play, but just every so often to help me play violin better. It's not like the viola's all that different from the violin, but, I prefer the violin overall. Alex here," points to Alex. "He's the one who plays viola on a normal basis, even though you prefer the other instrument you play better. And, you took my violin case, right?"

"Yeah... and whatever. I'm not in the mood to play it right now, so just give it to me later."

"Alright." Ruika turned to Mizuki. "I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't like me, same with you. Wouldn't be the first person to hate me. I'm used to it by now."

Alexei never really liked many people in the Music Department, as many had big egos or had way~ too much self-confidence for their own good,  made him wonder why he decided to be in it. These people, even though Kei was in the Regular Department, were really annoying and getting on his nerves. Akino and Mizuki especially.

"Mizuki-san, right? I'll agree on the note that I'm not really a classical fan either, unless it TRULY impresses me. Other than that, Ruika really won't care how harsh one's criticisms are. She's heard 'em all~ You haven't seen it yet, but Ruika, whenever she's in her so-called 'serious mode,' you have NO idea how harsh she is with her criticisms. And, I'm NOT joking. When she's serious... with music or with criticisms, she won't hold back. It scares me how harsh she can be especially since she's normally not like that..." Outside music anyway...

When she saw Akino's soul go up in a puff of smoke, a sweatdrop appeared as she wondered how strange people were at this school. That was Alexei's signal to leave.

"Ruika, I'll see you at home. Oh, one more thing."

Before he left, he whispered something to Ruika, "Don't let your guard down and it isn't about the music thing either."

"Huh?" It took her a moment for her mind to register what Alexei had whispered to her. When she realized it, he was already gone. She had other problems now. She rather be alone right now than having to deal with people that she didn't even know. Alexei was kidding when he told her a few years back that she tended to get herself into things that she didn't even plan on doing intentionally. This was just like those times and just like those times, she'll have to fight it out.

OOC: Yay! Mizuki doesn’t hate Haruka. =D Icery, yes, it’s very hard to play on the clarinet too. Good job on picking such a hard piece! XD I’d turn red before I’m done with the piece especially at the part near the end. Need a lot of air! XDD Oh and I feel like that was the end of episode one and I’m starting episode two off, lol. It’s going to be after school this time.

As soon as class ended, Haruka was driven home to practice the piece by Paganini. Just thinking about the duel made her excited again so she took out the music sheet and looked it through. Yup, she could do this.

Smiling, she looked out the window and stared at the sky. This was going to be a fine, fine day. Her mind, then, remembered what Ruika said to her back there.

“Before anything else... I'll tell you this much: over confidence will kill you. Mark my words on it."

Over confidence will kill her? That’s not true. Her confidence was always sky high when she challenged the other musicians and what was the result for her? Victorious. Plus, it’s always good to have confidence in oneself. Haruka believed that without confidence, the person will never be successful in the end. She also believed confidence makes a person stronger and more powerful and those beliefs weren’t going to change for her any time soon.

She crossed her arms and frowned, “And what’s with those condescending comments by her? How rude! I’ll show you something you won’t ever forget!”

Angrily, she went into her drawers and took out a box of reeds. She stuck one in her mouth and proceeded to take the older reed off her mouth piece. What Ruika said shouldn’t matter but how patronizing the comments were really made her mad. So what if she was the music prodigy? Haruka was going to teach her a lesson or two about messing around with the wrong person.

When everything was set up with a new reed on the mouth piece, Haruka began to practice the song.

“I’ll practice this every day before the duel, every second of my time, when I’m not in class or eating my meals, will be dedicated to practicing. Memorizing just comes along with practice anyway, after all, that’s how I managed to memorize half the piece before,” Haruka thought. With that in mind, she continued to practice while memorizing the piece. She just had to work with the tone a little more.

"Why are you playing it too?" Kei sweatdropped as Mizuki searched through the music library, "You're a judge, not a participant."

"Well, a good judge should always know what the piece sounds like. I personally, have never heard of this Nicky guy."

"Niccolo." Kei corrected with a heavy sigh, "And that's because he doesn't write music for double reed instrument's. Not like he makes any for woodwind, but honestly..."

"You should play a duet with me!" Mizuki said, pulling out the music book, "Piccolo's can play on the oboe staff too." Kei took the music score in his hands and shook his head, "Piccolo's don't play this low. It's like a chromatic scale. I could play it an octave higher, but I won't because it'll be nice if we can both keep our eardrums intact."

Mizuki shrugged, "Suit yourself. Have you seen my oboe?"

"No." Kei replied blandly, picking out Dixie Fantasy, an easy piece that was good for warm-up's. Kei, due to not being a music student, never really spent much of his time challenging himself with hard music. Mizuki however, was currently looking for her oboe, which disappeared much more often then her harp or bassoon, due to their difference in size.

Pulling it out from underneath the coffee table, Mizuki cried out, "A-HA!"

"Pipe down." Kei rolled his eyes as he applied some joint grease to the cork attatchment.

Soaking her reed in a small glass cup (that was supposed to be for alchohol shots) She also took a moment's silence to oil her keys, which hadn't been used for quite some time. In the meantime, she skimmed over the notes of the Caprice, playing the music in her head like a recording that was a little off. Sliding in her reed, she took a breath and-

"...Just stop." Kei glared, having tripped over himself at how sharp the note was.

"Ehehehe... Where's the tuner?" Mizuki asked sweatdropping, as she moved metronomes and whatever other devices were in the basket labeled, 'Music Assistance'.

"Akino wants you to judge for him." Mizuki said as she tossed broken tuner's over her shoulder.

"Akino needs to realize that I'm not a music student."

"It's classical though."

"I don't want to be around that Ruika girl. You know why. And it's like she... I don't know. She just talks too freely."

"Hn. I don't really like how confident she is either, but she's not that bad. Prodigy is such an empty word. I don't believe in it. That other girl, do you know her?"

"Asazaki-san? Not that well. She's a music student, so I only see her when Akino drags me over there, and even then it's rare. She's supposedly very diligent about her practice though. Serious about music in general."

"This'll be interesting." Mizuki blew a dark strand of hair out of her eyes, "But I'm honestly not really impressed with their resume's."

"...Digging around again?"

Soon enough, Mizuki was back on track, with Kei in the little recording studio on the side of the library- which was sound proof, much to Mizuki's luck, as the sharp brilliant sound of the piccolo would definetely had bothered the practicing girl.

((Heh, thanks. Trust me on this that the 24th Caprice isn't the hardest one. Today, I found some of his other ones that sound like so, so, so~ much harder. Seriously, the movements are so much more rapid in those, that I wonder how people can learn a piece where the notes are so fast. I won't reveal the names of the pieces, but one of them WILL be one of the songs that she's gonna play later on~ And Hanabi, yeah, I had a feeling that Mizuki wouldn't like Ruika. ^^;; Well, we'll see where this takes us~))

Ruika wasn't really in the mood to be driven home, so she just told Alexei that she'd be home later and to go without her. Alexei figured that she was going to practice or something. Before leaving the gate, he told her this, "Yeah~ about before, do be careful. I feel like deja vu is gonna happen and at this current rate, it WILL happen. Sigh... And oh!" he handed her violin case, "here, you can have your violin back."

"Thanks." was her reply as she handed him back his viola case. She noticed that he didn't seem like he was all that happy, which made her curious.

"Alex, what's wrong anyway? You seem mad..." Ruika trailed off towards the end.

He sighed. "Mad? Not really. I just want to go home and finally have some peace and quiet for a change. You've been the talk around the Music Department and now you've gotten yourself into a music challenge the FIRST day and I'm just tired of hearing it. Don't worry. I'm not gonna bail out on ya, but still... I don't want to be in your shadow anymore."

"I can understand that, Alex. I'm not stupid. Anywho, I don't think classical music suits you; you seem to love jazz anyway, so be a jazz musician. After all, you play saxophone with a lot more enthusiasm than with the viola, no offence. I wanna hear ya play sometime again and in person this time, instead of me overhearing you play." She said that last part with a rare full smile on her face.

Alexei was quiet for a moment and was in shock as he couldn't think of what to say. She had a good point. He DID love jazz and his emotions definitely showed when he played jazz music. Of course... he wasn't sure if he wanted to be a musician of any kind professionally. "Hm... I suppose you're right and~ in that case-" he shook his head. "nevermind. You'll find out soon enough and I'll see you later."

With that, he closed the car door and the car drove off. Ruika wasn't sure what to do now as she wasn't really in a practicing mood, so she decided to go onto the roof and just play something random, just for fun -- the first song to come to mind. It took her some time as with everyone she asked, they kept rambling on about her, among other useless stuff.

By the time she got onto the roof, the sun was already beginning to set. Putting her case down, she decided to stare at the sunset for a few moments.

"It's beautiful~. I haven't seen a sunset in so long."

Right then, she knew what piece she was going to play. Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto No. 4 in F minor, RV 297 "L'inverno" - Largo. She took out her violin and began to play.

That song wasn't a particularly difficult song to play, but it brought back fond memories for her. Her mother, who was also a famous violinist, once played that song for her and the rest of her family as the sun was setting, just like today's. Just like her mother once did, she played the piece with elegance, as well as having the technical aspects perfect.

What was funny about her playing that particular song was that she hadn't heard that piece since before her mother died, nor had she had ever tried playing it after she died. Before she knew it, she was crying; it's been years since she's actually cried while playing as she usually doesn't get over emotional when she plays. When she finished the song, she placed her violin back in its case and wiped away her tears.

"Mom... I played your favorite piece for the first time... I hope you heard it... I hope you liked it... Same with you Dad, Big Bro..." she whispered as she gazed into the reddish sky.

OOC: lol, Ruika is hated…but it’s to be expected since she’s a prodigy. XD Who doesn’t dislike geniuses? Hehe. Oh and yes, Icery, there are a lot of fast songs out there; I’m amazed at how they play them as well. Sometimes, though, I prefer softer and slower music.

“Haruka!”

… … …

“Haruka!”

Haruka stopped playing because of the loud knocks on her door and her name being called many times. Just when she was up to the best part of the song too. The interruption had to happen when she was up to slurring the last few parts of the piece. First, today she was interrupted by a rude student and now this.

She stopped playing and walked over to open the door.

“Yes, mother? What can I help you with?” Haruka asked as nicely as possible. She tried to but it didn’t sound very nice at all. Her voice was filled with annoyance.

Her mother, who looked very much like Haruka but with a different eye color and older, sighed. “Haruka, don’t you think you should rest for a while? You’ve been playing that clarinet for a very long time,” her mother said with a tender look on her face. She was clearly worried about her daughter. All day and night, Haruka would be practicing the clarinet. Isn’t she ever tired? She lacked a social life and she just seems so lonely all the time. Seeing Haruka like that always breaks her heart.

Haruka rolled her eyes, “MOM! Can’t you see how important this is to me? This is my life! I need to beat that prodigy in a music competition!" Haruka softened up a bit,"Don't you want your daughter to be the world’s number one? If you want me to be happy, make the servants cook something really nice two days later. I won’t disappoint you or the world!” With that, she closed the door and continued to practice leaving her mother standing outside sadly. “I don’t think the world and I are the only ones you’re really trying to impress, Haruka. You still think about…” she whispered quietly but didn’t finish the sentence and walked away.

Would it be too much to ask for you to RP in written style instead of asterisk? (Or hyphen, in your case. xD) It just bugs me... a lot. ^^; So like,

Quote:

That would be more like: competition!" Haruka softened up a bit,"Don't you...

I should've added it in the notes that I wanted literate. xDD; Sorry, that was totally my bad~

((Yeah, that's true. ^^; Remember her conversation with Alexei? She really hates knowing that so many people hate her, but she's gotten used to it; hence her cold attitude and her some what indifferent attitude about that fact to the people around her. I think that's a partial reason why she's so harsh when she's criticising (even though she isn't exaggerating or making stuff up).

In any case, she's trying to live with it the best she can. Her real only way of venting her own pain would be through her drawings or through music as she can't really express it in words well. Maybe to Alexei and her parents, she's a little more open, but not by much. Oh, btw, I'm going to warn you guys now that whenever you see anything in red font in Century Gothic font [
like this], that's when Alexei, Ruika, or their parents are speaking in Russian as they ONLY speak Russian in their house. Well, to their parents anyway... Names, I guess will still sound the same like in whatever language the characters are speaking.))
[anything in brackets] = phone conversations
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alexei was listening to Jazz music in his room while sitting on his bed, reading some novel. He was probably listening to Louis Armstrong as he was one of his favorite Jazz musicians. He'd hope the reading and the music would calm his mind down from the earlier events at school, but he still couldn't help but think about it.

There is a reason why people usually don't challenge me head on like this, especially after what happened at my old school.

"No kidding, Ruika... If you know, then why?"

If you really think you can beat me, I'll take you on. Before anything else... I'll tell you this much: over confidence will kill you. Mark my words on it.

"She's told me that too... sometimes she's over confident, but not to mine or Haruka-san's level. She already knows her strengths and weaknesses and her weaknesses, she's strengthened them so she really doesn't have weaknesses now. With music anyway. Besides that... I've got nothing to say..." His words and thoughts trailed off with the last few things he said, ever getting softer in tone.

He decided to place his book down and take a nap while listening to Armstrong's trumpet playing. He was finally was relaxed, but only a half hour passed when his father knocked on his door.

"Alexei? Where's Ruika? Your mother and I have something to talk about with the BOTH of you."

Alexei sighed. Whenever his father said that, that most likely meant that the two of them were going overseas again. That's what he felt like that was going to lead anyway. "She's most likely still at school. Practicing."

"Really? Geez, that girl. Whether it's actually practicing or just for fun, she really is like my late sister. Both loved the violin extraordinarily. Well, could you call her and tell her to come home please?"

"Fine."
He sounded really reluctant to call Ruika. He wondered why his father or mother couldn't do it. He sighed and picked up his cell phone off the night stand and dialed Ruika's number.

Riiing~

Riiing~

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Ruika played one of Paganini's pieces this time. His Violin Sonata No. 6. There's usually an accompaniment, like a piano, but even without it, it sounded pretty well. When she finished playing, her cell phone rang. She placed her violin back in its case, closed it, then answered the phone.

"Hello?"

["Ruika, it's Alex. Mom and Dad want you home now."]

Puzzled by that sentence as usually her parents didn't care when she came home, as long as it was before it got really dark and it wasn't really dark yet.

"Why? Didn't you tell them I was at school?"

["Yeah~, but Dad said that he and Mom have something important to say to the BOTH of us."]

"Oh. I guess I'll have to go home then. I'll see you in a little bit."

After that call was over, she called her driver to come and pick her up. She placed her phone back in her bag and gathered her stuff together. As she heading down the stairs, she didn't notice that someone was coming up the stairs and she accidentally bumped into them, causing her to almost trip. The person seemed familiar, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

"Right now, I might not be that reliable. One day, maybe I'll be able to help. Things can't be the same as they were before, but there's this kind of feeling that's linking us together. I don't think we're living in different worlds."

"How boring."

"You're boring."

"Your face is boring."

"Your mom is boring!!"

Kei sweatdropped, "... My mom is your mom."

"...Oh... Shut up!" Mizuki puffed out her cheeks and folded her arms. Thankful to be out of her uniform for the day, she was wearing a pair of khaki cargo capri's, accompanied by a black clip bracelet, a wristband watch, a plain white, tank top, and a pair of black converse. (And a good plethora of other accessories as well.) As for Kei, he stuck with the good ol' slim-fit black pants which gathered above his own bright green converse, and a pale green summer vest, the dark green hood drawn back. Hold on the accessories for Kei, save for a silver watch.

"You need better come-backs." Kei sighed, rubbing the back of his head, and making his messy black hair even messier, "Why do I have to come?"

"Because it'll be fuuun~ Beside's Aniki is away isn't he? So I can't drag him with me. So I'm dragging you with me." Mizuki grinned and hopped onto the jungle gym as they reached the park, "I even brought a notebook and pencil with me so that I could write down what I liked and didn't like!"

Kei sighed and sat down on the second bar from the ground, tyring his best to ignore the fact that Mizuki was being an absolute goof at the top of the jungle gym. It wasn't that he had horrible bed hair, it was just that Mizuki hadn't given him any time to brush his hair this morning. So his hair looked really messy.

And what was frustrating was that it was more like something that Mizuki would do, rather then himself. Kei ran a hand through his hair, and tried to straighten it out, succeeding only partially.

"Are we early? Or are they late?"

"We're early." Mizuki replied, hanging upside down from the top bar, "I didn't want them to have to wait for the judges, you know?"

"Don't use that word in the plural form. I'm not judging squat." Kei shot back coldly.

"That's mean!" Mizuki faked tears as she sat up, "Kei-chan is the meanest big brother in the world!!"

Sweatdropping, Kei did his best to ignore his dramatic little sister as he checked his watch. To hell did he know when the contest was supposed to start, but it was a bad habit of his whenever he was kept waiting too long.

((Whee, a nice amount of Russian this time. XD))

The next two days flew by, and now was the day of Ruika's duel against Haruka. She didn't feel nervous at all, not that she felt over confident, but was very calm. She was used to things like this, so this kind of thing wasn't new to her. She easily memorized the rest of Caprice 24 with just her usual need of just a glance of it, so she practiced it a few times before she was satisfied and decided to play that piece in between some other pieces over those two days. She didn't want to rip the fun out of it by over practicing, hence alternating playing it with other music pieces like Mozart's No. 3 in G, K. 216 - Allegro and No. 1 in B flat, K. 207 - Adagio, Vitali's Chaccone, Schubert's Ave Maria, several of Paganini's other Caprices and Violin Sonatas, and Pachelbel's Canon in D Major.

As she and Alexei were walking towards the park; Ruika with her violin case in hand and Alexei with his saxophone case (as he was going to meet up with Takuya after this), it was quiet as she was thinking about the conversation she had with her parents and Alexei two nights earlier.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Your mother and I are going overseas for another concert tour. This time in America."

"What?"
Alexei was in shock, but in a way, seemed obvious. "You guys just got back with Ruika from traveling for the past three years and now! You two are traveling again?!"

His father sighed. "Well, Alexei, that's the life of a musician. I'm your mother's accompanist, so I have to travel with her. Not that I don't enjoy her company."

Their mother finally entered the room and continued right where their father left off.

"Yeah and the two of you have to finish school here. Ruika knows that all too well. She's tired of having private tutors teaching her, so she'd rather be in a normal school. With you, I know you're sick of moving. First to France, then Japan, back to Russia, then back to Japan. I'm sure you don't want to move again, right?"

"Yeah."
Alexei replied bluntly.

"Unlike the last ones, we'll only be gone for three months, so don't worry about it. And you two, please don't get yourselves into trouble. Your father and I don't want to have to deal with another incident like the one in Paris alright?"

"We know, Mom. We know~."
Ruika and Alexei said in unison.

"One more thing, how was your first day of school, Ruika?"

Ruika didn't even get a chance to answer as Alexei answered bluntly for her.
"She got herself into a music duel with some third year music student."

"Really?"
she didn't seemed to be upset, or thrilled. "And Alexei, let Ruika answer this time."

Ruika looked at Alexei for a moment before replying, "Yeah."

Her mother sighed. "Dear, please TRY not to be as harsh as you usually are with these things. You're going to get yourself into trouble."

"I've told her that too, Mother. She doesn't listen; she just goes into that 'serious mode' by habit now, so you can't do much about that."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Man, all three of 'em worry too much. But... I can understand why. I've gotten myself into things that maybe I could have avoided, but I dunno..." Ruika mumbled to herself as she and Alexei were walking towards the park.

She had to admit that getting out of that uniform was a good thing as she wasn't really fond of it. She never really liked ties like those or the uber short, pleated skirts. She was wearing a blue halter top underneath a white with green stripes in a plaid pattern, short sleeved button up top with a dark blue denim skirt that stopped about an inch above her knees. On her feet, she was wearing white, three inch wedges. As for accessories, she had on a very simple silver necklace with a silver dolphin with a tiny diamond for its eye, a pair of simple dangling silver earrings, and a small silver butterfly barrette, embedded with tiny sapphire, emeralds, and rubies, on the back her hair. ((A/N: I'm hoping that her outfit doesn't seem to look bad, as I'm not the best describer, but yeah.. it's supposed to be a semi-casual look.))

Alexei was with her as well and had a frown on his face. Ruika knew that he really didn't want to be there and it was her fault that he had to get involved, but like he told her two days earlier, he didn't bail out on her. He didn't mind the uniform as long he didn't have to wear that tie; it didn't suit him, so he never wore it. His outfit was a heck of a lot simpler than Ruika's as he was just wearing the black shirt that he had worn underneath his coat and unbuttoned undershirt with a pair of brown, loose cargo pants, and a pair of black sandals.

"Alex, you do you think is going to win?" Ruika asked, wanting to break the silence between them.

"Ruika, do you REALLY want me to answer that?" Alexei answered clearly annoyed with her question. "I just find this all stupid anyway. Even if I don't like classical music all that much, it's obvious that you're going to win. I'm surprised that you're asking me that. Even now, you still have doubts about you talent?"

"It's not that."

"But what then?"

"I dunno..." Ruika trailed off.

"In any case, don't stress yourself out. Just have fun, like you always do with music and you'll be fine."

"Heh, thanks."

When the two of them finally got to the park, they saw that Kei and Mizuki were already there. How long were they waiting? They didn't know; probably not too long though.

"Hello, Mizuki-san, Kei-san." Ruika said politely.

"Yo." was Alexei's short, unenthusiastic greeting. He didn't even bother to wait for their responses as he walked towards the closest tree and sat underneath it with his arms crossed.

"...Senpai..." Kei mumbled to himself in correction, even though either way it was a respectful way of addressing someone.

"Ruika-chan!" Mizuki waved, upside down again as she swung back and forth, "Hey, hey, instead of Akino for judge, is it okay if Kei-chan judges for him? Akino-baka said that he was busy today, since their stocks are going down a little. But I'm sure that's okay, because Kei-chan is a good judge!"

Kei sighed, having not bothered greeting either of them with the reasoning that the guy didn't seem interested enough to deserve a greeting and the girl was currently preoccupied with Mizuki's blathering. <i>'There she goes again with the judge crap. I thought Mizuki didn't like Ruika. Why is she being so friendly and familiar? Ruika-</i>chan<i>? Oh well. Maybe Mizuki changed her mind. Or maybe Mizuki's just faking it. Or... maybe Mizuki forgot about what she said two days ago... it's probably the latter.'</i>

"After this, we should go get something to eat! That'll be fun!" Mizuki was blabbering, "And then, we should go play for the kids! That'll be even more fun! Hey, Kei-chan, can you play 'The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round' on your piccolo?"

"If the kids want to keep their eardrums intact, no." Kei said flatly, "You pick songs that either go too high and burst people's eardrums, or go too low and sound like crap....And you expect me to play them too." Kei muttered as an afterthought.

"Kei-chan's so booooring!" Mizuki booed, sticking out her tongue.

"You're face is boring."

"Your mom is boring!!"

Kei heaved a heavy sighed, "My mom is your mom."

"... Deja Vu."

"That's because we said the same things..." Kei muttered, trying his best to keep his cool, "Five. Minutes. Ago."

OOC: Sorry for the late reply! Midwinter break is over so I’ll have to go to school tomorrow. I’ve been cramming homework assignments really badly for the past two days and still am cramming. I should seriously quit procrastinating. -_-;; This new year resolution thing just isn’t working for me. ¬_¬

“Today is the day! Yes, I, Asazaki Haruka, will defeat the music prodigy of the school, Ruika Novikov! Mom, dad, make sure we celebrate today!” was the first thing Haruka said when she walked downstairs to her parents. She wore a shimmering white gown that fell to the floor with a matching pair of sparkling white high heels. The diamond necklace hung around her neck matched perfectly well with her diamond earrings; both were gleaming as the sun reached them.

Her mother’s eyes widened with surprise, “Haruka, I thought you said you were going to have a competition with your friend in the park near the school today. I don’t think it’s necessary to make yourself stand out with an elegant dress suited for a ball like that.”

She cocked an eye brow at her mother, “No, mom. You’ve got it wrong. That music prodigy isn’t my friend. Please get that straight. Didn’t I tell you she was my rival?”

“Well, maybe you guys will be friends later,” her mother said hopefully.

Haruka rolled her eyes, “Not going to happen. Anyway, I’m dressed like this because I need to look very nicely when I beat that prodigy, you know? I’ve already thought of the whole scene. Hehehehahaha!” The more she thought about it, the more excited she got.

Her father shook his head tiredly and said, “Okay, Haruka. Take your time. I’ll get the servants to make your favorite food today.”

“Hey…why do you sound so tired and annoyed, dad? You don’t think I’ll win?” Haruka frowned and crossed her arms looking disappointed. Why couldn’t anyone believe her?!

“No, no, you’ve got it all wrong. I do believe that you will win, Haruka. Do your best,” he said while trying smile at his only daughter.

Shaking her head, she walked outside and got inside the car. As the car was driving, Haruka was thinking about why everyone couldn’t believe her. She had so much confidence and confidence is very important when one is in a competition. So…why?

“Well, I just know, you’d believe me if you were here…I know you’ll find me soon.”  Haruka said in her mind. She smiled brightly and looked at the sky.

After a few minutes, she was there, at the park near the school. She looked out the window of the car and realized everyone was already there. Great, she got to be fashionably late. How amazing was that!

Her driver hurried to get out of the car and helped Haruka open the door. Feeling the sun’s ray on her skin made her more confident than ever. She stepped out of the car and walked up slowly to the judges and her rival while holding her clarinet.

“Hello, everyone. I hope you’re all ready to hear the best,” Haruka smirked. Two whole days of practicing non-stop, yup, she’s going to win for sure.
