'Has this girl gone mental?! I thought she hated me. Her brother, no doubt, does and I thought she did too. Two days ago, that was my impression, and now... WHAT. THE. HELL. AM. I. SUPPOSED. TO THINK?!'
Ruika was confused out of her mind. She was acting like a whole different person comparing to two days ago. First, Mizuki hated her, and now, she was trying to act like her best friend. Something was SERIOUSLY wrong with that picture; her mind was agreeing with her.
Alexei saw Mizuki talking and, like Ruika, was wondering the same thing. 'I thought she hated Ruika, so what the hell's up with this? Is this SUPPOSED to be a joke?'
Ruika finally said something to Mizuki. "I don't mean to be rude, but what's YOUR problem? You seemed to hate me two days ago, and now you're acting like my best friend? What's up with that? I don't like people who pretend to be nice. If you want to be nice for real, be yourself, don't fake the niceness. If you really are being nice and not faking it, then I might actually take you up on the offer."
She sounded cold, her tone getting nicer just on that last sentence, but Ruika meant every word. She hated people who just were pretending to be nice and she wasn't going to fall for it. If Mizuki truly wasn't faking it, she'd REALLY have to prove it to her. As of now, she didn't trust any of these people. She wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. Alexei heard what she said and agreed with her mentally. Something just wasn't right and both Ruika and Alexei thought that. Before she or anyone else had said anything, Haruka had finally arrived. She was a bit late, but it wasn't like she missed much.
Ruika was the first to see Haruka but quickly became a little confused with what Haruka was wearing. She seemed to be dressed up a little TOO fancy. 'It was just a simple music duel; she didn't have to dress up so formally. Sigh, I guess she's dressed like that so when she beats me, she can celebrate.'
Her nice, or semi-nice thoughts, ended RIGHT there. 'Haruka Asazuki. Don't think I'm going to let you win. I'm not stupid enough to lose a match like this. I know I've got my pride and reputation on the line, but this is nothing.'
Uh oh, Ruika is already in her 'serious mode'... That's only just the beginning. Her true wrath was yet to come~
Ruika shook the thought out of her mind for a moment and was the first to greet her.
"Hello, Haruka-san. I hope you're prepared as I am and I'm looking forward for a hopefully interesting match. I'll have to say that you're dressed very nicely," Ruika paused and that's where her politeness stopped. "TOO nice for something like this. It's just a little duel; no need to dress up for the occasion. It's not like we're playing in front of a huge crowd in a concert hall. You think too naively. Let's get this match started."
Alexei saw Haruka and stood up, re-crossing his arms after doing so as he still wasn't thrilled be here; his saxophone case still next to him in its upright position. 'Now, with Haruka-san finally here, the games can finally begin. No more nonsense.
That's when he realized that Ruika was in her 'serious mode.' 'Oh boy... Ruika's ALREADY in her 'serious mode.' She always goes all out and never holds back on any opponent, no matter how weak they are. No wonder she was known as the "Demonic Violinist" (or "Demonic Prodigy;" same difference~) at that music academy in Paris. The REAL game has now truly begun and Haruka-san is going to have a real BAD and VERY REAL taste of Ruika's 'serious mode.' I have a real bad feeling about it.' _________________ "For me, as long as you're saying it, it doesn't matter how slowly you say it, I'll still listen. If you can't talk over the phone, then I'll come to see you, just like this. I'm not a dolphin. You're also not a dolphin. If you want to walk, no matter how slowly it'll be, I'll walk with you."
"Right now, I might not be that reliable. One day, maybe I'll be able to help. Things can't be the same as they were before, but there's this kind of feeling that's linking us together. I don't think we're living in different worlds."

OOC: Okay, after the contest is over, if anybody- anybody at all, objects to going for ice cream~ *I really want ice cream now* ~ Then I'll skip to the next day, and the announcements of the concur's. I'll add another character to fill the last spot when I get home. Don't bother waiting for me to post after this, both of you just go ahead and do your performance.
Kei's going to be very very frustrated. >3 *Don't expect a verdict from him.*
IC: Kei stood up, ready to blow up. All he did however was sit back down and snap in a very very bitter tone, "Maybe you don't mean to be rude, but, you ARE being rude. Maybe it's just something that has to do with prodigy's but NORMALLY, people don't INSULT other people when they're being nice to you."
Mizuki sweatdropped and pulled herself upright, spinning around like a master gymnast- and maybe she wasn't a master, but she was pretty darned good.
"No, it's okay Kei-chan~" Mizuki said, spinning herself around the top few bars out of boredom, "If she doesn't want to be friends, then that's okay too. I just looove competitions! Do I seem any different from a few days ago? I don't think so!!"
Kei folded his arms and remained silent, proceeding to ignore the stupid prodigy girl, (and Mizuki,) and focused on Asazaki. Even though she was the same year as him, she was in the music department. He hardly knew her, but by what she was wearing, compared to everyone else...
"Hey Haruka-chan~ is there a party after this? If you're dressed like that then you can't go eat with us afterwards! You have a change right? Why are you dressed like that at a park?" Mizuki said, grabbing onto the bar below her and flipping her feet out from over her head, throwing herself onto the sand.
"A-nd, STICK IT!" Mizuki chirped loudly, making Kei flinch visibly, "After this, we should go get some ice cream, okay? Everyone has to come!" She said, matter-of-factly, "I'll pay this time! And then afterwards we can go play some more music!" She repeated everything for Haruka to hear, "We can play lot's of funny songs! Oh- right, we should start now shouldn't we?" Mizuki grinned, "A-okay then!"
She flipped out the notebook and pencil and dropped it to Kei who caught it with ease.
"Start anytime then!" Mizuki said, hanging over three bars, "I've played the piece myself, so I know just how it should sound! By the way Kei, I put the music in that notebook, so you can follow too."
Kei sighed and pulled out the piece of paper that was amazingly still clean and intact, even after all of Mizuki's gymnastic feats. _________________

Ruika glared at Kei before replying to his statement. "It has nothing to do with me being a prodigy. Even if I wasn't, I'd still find it weird. I just find it strange that someone who supposedly didn't like me two days is now trying to be nice to me. If she didn't hate me in the first place, she could have acted like she like it when we first met. If she truly wants to be my friend, then by all means, I won't mind. As long as she doesn't try to use me and have it go into her favor." She added that last part in her mind.
Ruika had no intention of letting her guard down anytime soon. If Mizuki truly wanted to be her friend, of course she wouldn't mind, but since she never really had friends growing up... she wasn't sure if she could trust her. She remember making that mistake once before, hence the seeds of doubt were still in her mind.
Seeing Mizuki's um.. interesting gymnastics feat, puzzled and amused her. 'This girl... is indeed quite strange...'
After that, she turned her attention back to Haruka after Mizuki said that this duel should get started. "Haruka-san? What do you think?" Ruika asked before getting her violin and bow out of its case before facing her again. "Would you like to go first or should I? It's up to you. I really don't care either way."
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Alexei was watching the four people in front of him, with Ruika and Haruka being the center of his attention at the moment. He knew from Ruika's conversation that Kei obvious hated Ruika. Was it just because she was a prodigy? He wasn't sure, but it HAD to be a part of it. As for Mizuki and Haruka... With Mizuki, he didn't know what to think anymore. She was already confusing his poor brain enough. And Haruka, this was definitely a first.
She was THE first one to EVER dress up so fancily for a match against his cousin. He had completely no clue why she'd dress up like this in a park, but he didn't care the reason. While Ruika and Haruka were talking, Takuya walked towards him, his trumpet case in hand. He was wearing a navy blue, short sleeved buttoned up shirt, with the first two buttons unbuttoned, white cargo pants, and black sandals.
"Yo, Alex~!" Takuya said waving to him.
Alexei wasn't expecting to see him now. Weren't they suppose to meet up later? This confused him. "Huh? What are you doing here, Kuya?"
"I tried calling you, but your cell was off; when I called you house, no one was home.
"Oh. So, how did you know I was here?"
Takuya shook his head. "I didn't. It was pure coincidence," that's when he noticed Ruika, Haruka, Kei, and Mizuki. "Oh? Ruika-chan's having a match against..."
"Haruka Asazuki. She's a third year in the Music Department. And when did you get so familiar with Ruika?"
"She didn't care if I called her that. 'It's much better than 'Ruika-sama. I hate formalities.' That's what she said."
"Ah, so I see. Why did you have to call me anyway?" Alexei said bluntly, wanting to get to the point.
"My dad called. He said he could get us an earlier time, unless you want to perform later. Either way, it's gonna be totally AWESOME~ to perform at my dad's club finally~! If we keep this up, we both could be famous Jazz musicians too, like Louis Armstrong and John Coltrane~!"
Alexei sighed with a slight smile on his face. Takuya was excited to be able to perform at his father's club and he couldn't blame him. His father ONLY allowed professional performers to perform at his club and he didn't want his son to make a fool out of himself in front of his clients. So why now? Simple. He and Takuya were at the club one night and it was funny that on that night, the current band's trumpeter and saxist both got food poisoning from food they ate from a party they went to earlier, so they decided to take over their spots.
His father was against it, but he reluctantly gave in. You see, neither of them knew the band's music, so they decided to do some improvisation (improv for short) instead. By the end of the night, the crowd was roaring and wanted the two of them to come back again and when they hear that the replacements were the owner's son and friend, they were quite thrilled to have a such talented pair. Takuya might not look it (and his profile wasn't much help), but he's an awesome jazz player and improv was his greatest strength.
He was like Ruika in that they both could come up with things right off the top of their heads and could have it memorized permanently without needing to write it down, unless necessary. Kinda funny since with classical, he was an average player. Jazz, was a whole~ other story. His closest friends knew that he was an awesome Jazz player, but not many others as he decided to go into the Regular Department rather than into the Music Department. He hated how the majority of them acted, so he didn't want to have to deal with them. Which, made him wonder how Alexei was able to handle them. The two musicians he mentioned were just a few of his favorite Jazz musicians, as with Alexei's.
"Hm, if the earlier time is now, we'll have to do what we originally booked. I told Ruika I wouldn't bail on her, so I'm keeping my word to her."
He grinned. "No worries. I figured something like this was gonna happen, so don't worry about it. Besides, I get to hear Ruika-chan play again."
"Again? When did you hear her play before?"
"Two days ago. She bumped into me as she was coming down from the roof. She's really good. No wonder she's a prodigy."
Alexei didn't respond to that so they were silent as they waited to hear Haruka's answer to Ruika's question.
((Little note to you, Hanabi. I forgot to add it to my last post, but I should of. XD Rella sent me a PM about the order and she said that it'd be better if Ruika performed first. I'll send you that PM. And remember when I said that I'd reveal something about Takuya? Well, there ya go. ^^))

OOC: Oooh, I want ice cream!! Make Haruka go!! Harhar, ice cream is you~ XD And oh, yay! The concours will begin! =D Eeeks! Ruika is beginning to scare me now. TT__TT She sounds so evil before…but it’s perfectly understandable. ^^ Mizuki is so fun! XD
“Ice cream? Sure. How about dinner in a fancy restaurant or at my place after that?” Haruka suggested. She was laughing at Ruika in her mind already. The image of her losing was going to be absolutely priceless; she would hear everyone praising her.
Haruka tried not to burst into laughter when she turned to Ruika but it was almost impossible since all she could think about was how Ruika would look after the competition.
Taking in a deep breath she said, “Why don’t you go first? Since you’re the music prodigy, it’s only right for you to be first.” Haruka beamed at her. In reality, though, Haruka only wanted to be last so that she would be able to show off her talent and surprise everyone with the wonderful sound of her instrument.
OOC: Three paragraph post because Haruka is thinking about nothing but winning Ruika right now so yeah, let’s get the competition started~ XD _________________ ~Rella~ |

((That evilness is just a part of that 'serious mode.' I almost thought that she was bi-polar or something for a while, but then I realize that she has complete control over that mode. Of course, it's a habit to go into that mode now, that's the only thing. XD The funniest thing, I think, about this mode is that though she becomes really serious while critizing, she can play with such grace and skill effortlessly. But, I'm glad that I can actually express her emotions a lot better than I originally thought, so she seems a bit more rounded as a character. Making her happy living life as a music prodigy would have been soo~ boring. This spicing it up makes her seem more interesting. ^^ And the ice cream's cool with me too. This'll be interesting indeed. ))
Ruika had nothing to say about Haruka's response to Mizuki. In either case, she'll see how this goes before anything else. When she turned to face her again and asked her if she wanted to go first, it didn't take long for her to answer.
"Alright. That's fine with me. The order doesn't mean anything to me." was Ruika's blunt reply as she walked away from Haruka, with violin and bow in hand, and walked towards the middle of the area that the now six people were in so everyone had a good view and were in hearing distance from her.
"Hello, everyone. I'm Ruika Novikov and I'll be playing Niccolò Paganini's Caprice No. 24 in A Minor." Ruika said calmly and did a short bow. The intro was kinda lame, but since no one was announcing, like she was used to experiencing, so she just did that just so everyone was clear on what she was playing and such.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before positioning her head on the violin's chinrest, making sure the shoulder rest was positioned correctly on her shoulder, and had her right hand holding bow positioned a tiny bit above the strings she was about to play; her left hand being on the fingerboard, on the first note she was going to play. The position looks graceful and very simple (as it is for her), but for someone inexperienced, it's actually a very difficult and painful position to be in for long periods and/or extended periods of time and takes a lot of practice to get used to.
She stayed like that for a moment before beginning to play.
As she was playing, she knew not to over play notes and just to let them flow naturally, making the piece feel much more elegant. She played the notes flawlessly, even getting the hard left-handed pizzicatos correctly. The notes sounded powerful, full of emotion and were flowing around her, towards the people who were listening.
Her bow was moving across the strings with grace, as as her left hand moving across the fingerboard with impressive speed as it did a lot of work. The slower parts were played with grace, elegance, and care, as well the faster parts and the pizzicatos were. Sure, Caprice No. 24 in A Minor wasn't the hardest Caprice of the 24 that Paganini wrote, but even so, to be able to play with such elegance as well as getting the technical parts correct wasn't as easy as it looked.
For Ruika, she had no problem establishing that. Being a prodigy DID give her an advantage in the technical aspects. But for the other half, it took much more practice to get right. Few know it, but Ruika wasn't always able to play so beautifully like this. Back when her real parents were alive, she never could understand why couldn't play as well as they did. Technical-wise, she was perfect, so she was confused and envied her parents.
Her parents told her this: "Even if you play a piece perfectly, as in getting all the right notes.. without your emotions -- what your heart is feeling as your playing, it'll only be half perfect. If your heart's not in the piece, even if you play the notes right, you'll be just a robot. Even if you get there, there are still ways to be even better. To get even farther, you'll have to figure it out. Ruika, you're a smart child with so much talent and potential that we're sure that you'll figure it out and be an even better musician than we are."
Ruika never understood those words while they were alive and it took her several years, after their deaths, and experiencing her own near-death experience to realize the truth behind those words. When she did realize it, she was glad that she did figure it out. Those words are what helped to become an even better violinist, a better musician -- one that got her even more noticed in the outside world.
Now, with that knowledge, she was going to use that to advance her skills even farther, and use it to her advantage. As she finished playing, she ended it with a few more graceful strokes of her bow. When she finished playing, she took her violin out from under her chin with her left hand and holding her bow in her right hand she took a bow.
------------------ (A/N: might edit the rest below out, if either of you guys think that it doesn't work.)
When she looked around her, no one said anything. She didn't know if that was a good thing or not, but at the very least she got some interesting reactions -- of shock really. No one seemed to notice anything wrong, so, not looking at anyone, she walked towards the nearest bench that was only around four feet away.
She passed by Alexei and Takuya (as they were in that direction of the bench), who were softly talking about her performance, but she either didn't notice or rather pretended not to hear them talk about her.
"Wow~ that... definitely was good. It felt different from the other time, but still conveyed a very powerful effect, don't ya think?"
"Hm. It was definitely powerful, I'll give her that. Sounded a whole lot better then when I played it."
"Wasn't that because you were playing it on viola?"
"Maybe," Alexei paused for a moment. "but, she really does have something that I truly lack in. That's what makes her such a better musician."
"You NOW get it? Geez~, Alex, you're slow." Takuya said with a sigh.
"No, dummy. I've known it for a while, but I've kept denying it, buring the feeling deep within my heart. She's even told me that, but knowing how stubborn I can be sometimes, I never listened. It's been three years since I've heard her play in person and in that time, she's improved so much and I can't believe it; it's like she has no limits. Hearing her play like this now, I think I can truly begin to understand those words."
"Huh?" That last part confused Takuya a little, but he could always ask him later as it was now Haruka's turn to play.
Before Ruika got there and sat down, she finally passed Haruka and whispered, "What did you think, Haruka-san?"
She sat down on the chair with her legs crossed and her violin and bow on her lap. "It's your turn, Ha-ru-ka-san~. Show us what you've got." She said as she smirked. It had nothing to do about victory, just to show how cold (and sarcastic) she could be as she was still in her 'serious mode.' Of course, since she was NOW going to criticize her, this mode was in a different and MUCH darker area.
((Whoo~ that was hard. I hope I got all the musical terms right. I personally don't play the violin, but I have friends that do and they told me that without the shoulder rest, it IS painful to play for extended periods of time. If you don't use a real one, like Ruika does, many people, beginners mainly, use a sponge for the shoulder rest. It's cheap, but it works until you buy a real one, which isn't exactly cheap. Geez, and that position, it IS hard. I tried holding my friend's violin before and before long, my neck was KILLING~ me. XP
EDIT: I wanted to add just to the ending, but I thought that it might mess it up; if so, I can edit it out.)) _________________ "For me, as long as you're saying it, it doesn't matter how slowly you say it, I'll still listen. OOC: I'm going to wait for Rella to post before saying anything~ So don't wait for me!
Seiji Lin - First IC
IC: "Quiwen! QUIWEN."
I jumped and stopped playing, removing the bow from the Guaho, calling, "Yes?"
"Would you help move these books?!" My mother called, and I said that I would, as I carefully leaned my Guaho against the wall of my bedroom. Wheeling myself into the shop, I grabbed five books and set them on my lap, expertly moving over to the other side and putting them in place. The music section of our bookstore was my little haven, and even though there weren't any Guaho pieces, as most of our music was taught to us by ear-training, I liked sifting through the piano pieces. Of course, we didn't have a piano at home, because it was pretty expensive, and we had better things to spend our money on, since I could just practice at school. (Like my electric wheelchair. It made it easier on my arms.)
"Is that all?" I asked, turning to face my mom, who was actually pretty tall for a chinese woman.
"Mmhmm. You can go." She had long black hair that was always tied neatly into a plain bun on the back of her head, as opposed to my father, who wore his hair close-cropped. I nodded and tilted the control forward, returning to the back of the shop. My sister was lounging in her bedroom studying. She didn't go to Seiso- my parents were still chinese parents, and they expected good grades from the best highschool. Seiso, wasn't the best highschool. But, it was the best highschool for me, or so they said.
I didn't particularly mind. Seiso Academy wasn't so bad. The people were nice! I slid out of the wheelchair and stood on shaky legs. It always took me awhile to get used to standing up after sitting the wheel chair for so long. It would be dinner soon, and if there was one thing that I couldn't get away with, that was being late. And I was faster on my feet then in that heap on wheels.
"Little brother," My sister poked her head into my plain chinese-styled bedroom, "Do you have some colored index cards?"
"Yeah, let me get them." I walked steadily and slowly over to my black desk and pulled out a new pack of index cards. I didn't need them anyway. Holding them out to my sister who had taken the liberty of noticing I'd just gotten out of my wheelchair, she walked over and picked them up instead of making me walk back to her.
"Thank you." She replied, twirling her hair around a finger like she always did. Believe it or not, we were twins. But she, obviously, wasn't paralyzed. She did have a few issues with her wrists, but that, she wasn't born with. She'd gotten carpal tunnel syndrome awhile ago, and wore a brace on her left wrist most of the time. Our parents liked to call us 'trouble squared', but it was a family joke, and nobody took offense.
"Dinner!" My father called, summoning us to the very very early dinner, and both me and my sister sat down at the same time. It was the only way to keep father from lecturing one or the other about being late. He always tried to stare out whoever had sat down after the other, but in the end, he always got too hungry to care. As usual, it was homemade wonton soup. It was what we had every Thursday night- Not that I didn't like it. It was just 'the usual'. _________________

OOC: Ooh, Seiji’s intro, love it! I really want to get some Chinese food now. XD And yes, Icery, the violin isn’t the easiest instrument to play which is a reason why I didn’t choose to learn to play that instrument (though now I really want to learn). XP Maybe the guitar would be slightly easier? I’ve only learned how to play two instruments so far and those are the clarinet and the drums. >.<
Haruka smiled and shrugged her shoulders when Ruika said she’d go first. So far, so good. All’s going according to plan for her. She walked up to an empty bench and sat down. Even though she didn’t look like she was laughing, she was still laughing inside. Ruika is going to lose, Ruika is going to lose~
Just when she was going to continue singing in her mind the “Ruika is going to lose” song, Ruika began to play her instrument which completely put a halt to Haruka’s insults. As music filled the area, Haruka could only stare at the prodigy and listen to her music.
It was not only absorbing and emotional but also very well played. There were no mistakes anywhere and that fact that her emotions were in that piece made everything seem more real. But…
Haruka felt her confidence level drop little by little as the song advanced to the middle part of the piece. But…but…why…? Tearing her eyes off of the prodigy, she tried to ignore the music her ears were listening to and bit her lip. So what if she was pretty good? She must’ve made a mistake somewhere in that piece. Must listen carefully! Seriously, though, it was really flawless. Haruka couldn’t find a single flaw as Ruika played the instrument.
She glanced at the judges but their expressions were inscrutable so she wasn’t able to tell whether their thoughts were the same as hers or what. Well, either way, Haruka wasn’t going to lose hope, no way. She was going to win this competition. With that in mind, her confidence level rose again. Yes, she should never lose confidence because confidence was the most important thing when competing against another person…at least that’s what he said.
Soon the song concluded and Ruika bowed. When she walked pass Haruka, she asked what Haruka thought of her piece.
Laughing, she said, “Ha! Please, it can’t compare to what I’m going to play next. It may be true that you did quite well but your piece was definitely missing something. Sadly, I’ll leave that for you to find out yourself. While you’re thinking though, I shall take the center now.” She rolled her eyes and walked into the center with her clarinet.
“Well, you all should basically know my name so I’ll just skip to the important part. I’m going to play Paganini’s Caprice No. 24, originally made for violins, but with a clarinet in B flat Major instead. Let me tell you all this first, this version on the clarinet sounds a whole lot better than it does on the violin. If you don’t believe me, why don’t I start playing now?” Haruka suggested. Lifting her clarinet up with her right hand, her left hand immediately got hold of the instrument as well and the song began.
Her fingers moved up and down the instrument as the notes changed, filling in the holes completely. Chin flattened and back straight, her embouchure and position were perfect. Each note was attacked quickly when she was playing sixteenth notes. The consecutive notes were slurred as the song continued. Haruka played her high notes that eventually led her to the middle notes and then high notes, back and forth taking a breath every time there was a sixteenth rest but air was not a problem since she was trained to breathe correctly when she was young.
Because her eyes were closed when she was playing the piece, she felt that she was wrapped around the music she was playing which was an amazing feeling. Faster, faster, faster. She took another quick breath during her last eighth rest and slurred through the rest of the piece, her fingers moving fast on each slurred connected sixteenth note. Finally, the song ended with an eighth note followed by a quarter rest and the magic disappeared.
Opening her eyes, she took the mouth piece out of her mouth and bowed, “And that was the clarinet version of Paganini’s Caprice No. 24. I hope you all enjoyed it.” She looked into the audience trying to search for what they thought of her piece on their faces.
Who is the winner? Is it going to be her? Ha! Of course it was going to be her. She looked at Ruika and gave her a victory smirk. _________________ ~Rella~ |

((I actually wanted to learn to play the violin a while back, but... my dad wouldn't let me; thought it was a dumb idea. I might try to learn just the basics at least one day, but I'm not sure. ^^; ))
Ruika heard Haruka playing and she had to admit that she played pretty well. There weren't any obvious mistakes, but, when she listened a LOT more closely, something was missing -- something that she clearly had in her own piece and she noticed that as she was playing that some of the notes seemed to be played a bit faster than they were supposed to be, while some seemed to be a bit shorter.
Ruika highly doubted that Haruka realized it. Someone like that... why would they realize it? She could tell that she was trying to convey her emotions, but she couldn't feel it. Her overall performance reminded her of how she used to play, with a lack of emotion and that really~ hurt her, even more than the mistakes.
When Haruka was done playing, she smirked at her, as she believed that she had won. What did Ruika do? She just smirked right back and and was trying to hold back an evil sounding chuckle, which wasn't working out so well.
Alexei noticed that and cringed. "Oh boy... if she's acting like that, you KNOW that can't be good. Every match I remember her doing that... her nickname really comes into reality. BIG~ time. And after this, you'll see that nickname that she got while we were living in Paris REALLY~ fits."
Poor Takuya was completely confused and had NO idea what Alexei was implying, but seeing Ruika acting like that was already scaring him. He was kinda scared to ask what Ruika's nickname was at that music academy, but he gulped that fear down as best as he could and asked him.
"Um, Alex... What exactly... WAS her nickname?"
He glanced at Takuya for a moment, realizing that he was gonna find out really soon anyway, he sighed before getting serious once again and replied, "Simply put, the 'Demonic Violinist,' or 'Demonic Prodigy,' which virtually meant the same thing back then, but the first one was more likely heard then."
Takuya didn't want to know more. He thought that he knew enough information for now and that information scared him enough. As for Ruika...
She was still smirking, which was looking a bit.. well, evil. "Haruka-san. I admit that you played it well -- for the most part~," that's when she stopped smirking and her cold tone returned. "But, it wasn't perfect. Not even~ close. It was just half perfect."
((I'm gonna have fun with my next post~ hee hee~ *evil smirk* Both of you guys will see this side of her 'serious mode' in play and really when Alexei said that he wasn't kidding about seeing her like that isn't a good thing. It REALLY isn't. O.o; And you'll both see why she's called the "Demonic Violinist" like he said. ^_^))

OOC: I drew Mizuki's outfit, so I'll scan it tonight and post it up~ I love this one SO much better then the other one I drew. (Which I did on the computer, which is why it sucks.)
IC:"That was awesome!!" Mizuki chirped, again, on the jungle gym, "Kei-chan, Kei-chan, what do you think- Kei-chan?"
The boy in question was quaking, but from what, Mizuki wasn't sure. Or, maybe she was sure, but nobody else would know. Kei's expression was completely blank as he muttered quietly, "Here." He held out the notebook and pencil, the music crushed in his hands. It was okay with Mizuki- they could always buy another one, but...
"Kei-chan, what did you think?" Mizuki asked tentatively.
"I wasn't listening." He mumbled, folding his arms and staring at his white laces, "Whatever you want."
"I don't like being a judge," Mizuki commented, swinging her legs as she sat at the top bar, "But I liked Ruika-chan's a teeny weeny eensy weensy bitty witty little bit better. Haruka-chan was good too~ But Haruka-chan was at a disadvantage. It sounded terrible on my oboe~ It's a violin piece, not a clarinet piece!"
Kei didn't say anything, so Mizuki answered for him in a deep, fake, baritone voice.
"I don't have anything to say."
Kei turned a serious glare towards his little sister. Normally, he would've left, but if it was ice cream after this, then Mizuki would probably need an escort anyway. She probably would let him leave either. Mizuki giggled and spun backwards, turning herself around with a quick spin- "Ice Cream now? It's just down the block!"
To be honest, Mizuki was a little embarassed at how Haruka-chan was dressed. She looked like she was going to a wedding. But she was really going to an ice cream parlour... after this. But keeping it to herself, Mizuki rocked her head, waiting for a response.
After hearing what Ruika-chan said Kei moved his hand over his mouth as if in thought. It was his habit, whenever he was trying not to lash out. Mizuki sat up again and glanced at her big brother, saying, "Ruika-chan~ That was mean! Haruka-chan did really-"
"You're so arrogant." Kei grumbled, "I can't stand it!" He stood up and yelled, "You're ridiculous! Can't you think about the people around you?? You make it seem like your not selfish and you make it seem like you're such a kindred and misunderstood person- You're not!!"
"Kei-chan!" Mizuki started to berate but Kei kept on going.
"I hate people like you. You think Mizuki was faking? The faker is you!! I can TELL why you don't have any friends- and it's not because you're a 'prodigy'. It's because you're RUDE, it's because you're CONCEITED, and I don't have ANY sympathy for someone who walks around announcing to the world that they almost died! Because that's in the past, and you OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T DIE."
"ANIKI!!" Mizuki threw her pencil at Kei, who was currently flushing red from the excitement of his yelling, "Stop it!"
"You're disgusting, I don't even know why anyone even wants to be around you." Kei spat before storming out of the park.
Mizuki sighed and slid down the jungle gym, back onto the sand, bowing slightly and saying, "I'm sorry for Kei's behavior. He bottles it up and releases it all at once. I'm really very sorry- I knew it was a bad idea to bring him along, but I did anyway."
Darn. Just like Kei to ruin the day. So much for making new friends for Kei. He's always been so bitter, and scares everyone away whenever he get's angry.
OOC: Kei's gone~ He didn't stick around for a response, so yeah, you can respond if you want, but there'll be no point. Anyway, I honestly think we should speed up our posts, and get to the concur's. < <; We've spent way too much time on this. If Haruka wants a rematch, wait for the concur announcements. _________________

OOC: Noo, what about ice cream? =O Anyway, can’t wait to see your picture of Mizuki! And, yes, I know. I was planning to make Haruka convince Ruika to a rematch which is, whoever wins the concours will truly be the winner. Make the concours the rematch so yeah, go on and announce the concours soon! =D Oh and go, Kei! XD He totally said something to Ruika that would make her pissed. Hehe, Ruika seems like the antagonist now. XDD
Hearing Mizuki’s answer to which one sounded better, Haruka couldn’t help but frown. It was true that the piece was originally made for violins but, even so, the sound of the clarinet should’ve surpassed it. At least, that’s what she thought was supposed to happen.
Is it really true that my skills aren’t good enough yet? Such a disadvantage should never be a problem…this must be a mistake! What does the other judge think? This can’t be true!
"Haruka-san. I admit that you played it well -- for the most part~," that's when she stopped smirking and her cold tone returned. "But, it wasn't perfect. Not even~ close. It was just half perfect."
Haruka looked away from Mizuki and Kei to see Ruika with an evil grin on her face. She had to prevent herself from breaking her own clarinet because of anger when the prodigy gave her that comment. How dare she?! Half perfect?! What the hell? She’s obviously just jealous because Haruka played so wonderfully even though the piece was supposed to be only for violins. She was already lucky Haruka didn’t complain about her choice. “You…” she was cut short when Kei yelled out first.
She watched as Kei’s thoughts about Ruika poured out into the open with Mizuki trying to stop him from saying anything. Then, Ruika’s past was revealed in public. Haruka couldn’t help but stare at him shocked for yelling this in the park where anyone could’ve heard him. So they know about it too? Wow, tough luck, prodigy. Your luck really is bad!
Even though Haruka didn’t expect him to be like that, she felt slightly better that he was able to get back at Ruika especially since her last comment was so ridiculous but, Kei does have a point about Ruika.
Without hearing Ruika’s reply, Kei walked away so Mizuki had to apologize for him.
Haruka watched as he walked off. This duel didn’t turn out the way she expected, that’s for sure.
OOC: She won’t say anything to Ruika yet since Ruika probably has a lot in mind and what just happened was something major. _________________ ~Rella~ |

((Same here, can't wait to see it. Yeah, she does seem like it, but her explaining everything should change that, I hope. ^^;; And Hanabi, for some reeally~ wierd reason most of the mirrors went *poof*. O.o; ))
Ruika didn't say anything for a moment while Kei just stormed off. She had to admit what Kei said did sting her heart a little, but she has heard it before; it hadn't been for some time that she's heard someone called her conceited. Where people knew about how that her current mode was her 'serious mode', for the most part was her darker side, they knew that she normally wasn't like that. She had a feeling that something like this was going to happen. Ruika really did have a knack of getting into trouble like Alexei had mentioned and it wasn't like she did it on purpose; it was just her bad luck that someone would misunderstand her words.
Ruika sighed. "Guess he must have heard too... It's not like I brag about it. Alex knows pretty much everything about my past, so it's not like I'm opening up to everyone like that. He knows so much, even though we're not all that close... Most people don't even know; it's not in my normal profile where that could easily be looked up. It was one of the things that was rather covered up... as most people thought I just vanished for two years, instead of recovering... Among other things..." Ruika said all this softly while her eyes were facing the ground, but it was loud enough for someone to hear her, if they were close enough. It not like it was going to make any difference. After saying that, she raised her head and turned so she was facing Mizuki again.
"Mizuki-san, I can't blame your brother for the things that he said. But, he really doesn't know me at all. Most of the time, I don't act like this -- this is just part of my 'serious mode,'" Ruika looked serious, as she wasn't laughing. "I'm not joking. Every since I was little, I've always had an issue of criticizing people harshly because I could hear even the tiniest mistakes and I'm harsh as usually people won't listen to my criticisms unless I say it like that," Ruika sighed with a slight smile (which was more like a sad one). "which, I know~ that and it HAS gotten me into trouble because most people couldn't handle it and people who didn't know my reputation misunderstand that for being conceited. I'm not blind that I don't see that; it's a bad flaw and I know it."
She faced away from Mizuki a little bit and turned her attention to Haruka, though Mizuki could still hear her. "Haruka-san, that's the truth. The part that I've been showing you... That's the very part of my 'serious mode' that became the very reason I was known as the 'Demonic Violinist' at that music academy while I was living in Paris. That~... and I defeated virtually every student at that school. The few that didn't challenge me, were too scared to."
She was silent for a moment, and continued in a slightly nicer tone then the last time she spoke to Haruka. "Let me finish what I said before. You DID play well, but why is it only HALF perfect? Here's why. I can tell that you're trying to convey your emotions into your piece, but I couldn't really feel them. Getting the technical stuff right, is just half of it as if you're missing the emotion part, it'll never be perfect. You seem to have the very problem I used to have when I was little. Let me tell you something that my real parents told me once before, before they died: 'Even if you play a piece perfectly, as in getting all the right notes.. without your emotions -- what your heart is feeling as your playing, it'll only be half perfect. If your heart's not in the piece, even if you play the notes right, you'll be just a robot.' I'll admit that I didn't believe them at first because I was blinded by my jealousy for my parents' music, just as you are right now for mine, and so is my cousin."
She got a tad bit colder with the next part, with the last few sentences were said quite bluntly, but got nicer on her final sentence. "If you continue to let your jealousy and over confidence blind you, you'll NEVER get better. Since I was young when I realized it, it wasn't too hard to change, but since you're much older, you're much more rigid in your style and it's much harder to change. It's not impossible, but MUCH more difficult. You don't have to believe me, but I'm not lying. It's the truth, whether you believe me or not.. that's up to you. That, and there were a few times where you seemed to be playing a little faster than it was supposed to be. That one's a pretty minor technical mistake. I know having confidence is a good thing to have, but too much, that'll hinder you greatly -- not just music, but in anything."
"Ruika's right about that, whether you believe her or not. She never lies about things like this and though... she may sound harsh, she's just trying to help you improve, in her own, odd way. Like she said, she mainly sounds harsh as no one would pay attention is she didn't say it like that."
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Alexei and Takuya heard everything that was going on. Takuya thought that what Kei said was really harsh, while Alexei had a feeling that was going to happen. Kei seemed, to him, like the kind of person who, without knowing the whole truth, would say something like that to Ruika. He wished that Ruika wasn't so harsh, as it wouldn't get her in trouble so easily, but Ruika's always been like that, well... that part of her 'serious mode' anyway...
As for the rest that was said, Ruika had a really good point. He knew that he had the VERY problem Ruika told Haruka, but he never believed her. He always let his stubborness and pride take over, so he never listened. Like he said before, she sounded even better than three years ago, which really shocked him. Perhaps he should actually listen to her advice; after all, she was only trying to help him improve.
He finally decided to walk closer to where everyone else was, with Takuya following behind him and finally said something, after listening to everything else that was said.
"Ruika's right about that, whether you believe her or not. She never lies about things like this and though... she may sound harsh, she's just trying to help you improve, in her own, odd way. Like she said, she mainly sounds harsh as no one would pay attention is she didn't say it like that." _________________ "For me, as long as you're saying it, it doesn't matter how slowly you say it, I'll still listen. OOC: LOOK IT'S MIZUKI-CHAN
Mizuki grinned, seeing that Ruika-chan wasn't exactly devasted (Kei usually sent girls off crying their pants off after he blew up.) but Ruika-chan didn't seem like that kind of person anyway.
"Don't worry about Kei," Mizuki said, her mood brightened again within the second, "He's just a spoilsport- He's probably jealous." Mizuki held her hands around her mouth as if she were telling a secret- and in a way, she was, but it wasn't as if she were whispering, "Kei-chan is jealous of everyone. ANYWAY! LET'S GO GET ICE CREAM!"
Not waiting for anyone's opinion, and completely ignoring Ruika-chan's explanation for why she only decided 'half-perfect', she practically dragged Ruika-chan and Haruka-chan along, pausing only to turn around and wave at the upperclassmen she didn't know all that well, "If you guys want to come too, then follow me!!" (And yet, in the end, the point was, that she didn't know any of them all that well. But certainly better then anyone else at Seiso!)
It wasn't long before Mizuki-chan jumped into the ice cream parlour, and waved with both hands, the patrons all looking up with a smile, knowing exactly who had just arrived- Mizuki was a common face, and knew even the patrons who rarely came. She was frequent and picky enough to be able to say- "The usual please!"
"Ah, have you brought some friends this time Mizuki?" Morino, one of the cashier's asked, "That's rare!" He laughed- The tawny haired boy was always teasing Mizuki about her bubbly personality, yet lack of sociable friends.
Mizuki folded her arms, "No tip today Mori-chan."
Morino sweatdropped, thinking two things: "Ten dollars just flew out the window." and, "There she goes, calling me 'Mori-chan' again." _________________

OOC: Omg, this is the first time I don’t have anything to say here. O_O Wait…no, I do have something to say. XD Yay for Ruika’s nicer side! =D
Haruka tried her best to remain calm when Ruika turned to her and spoke about why she thought she didn’t play so well. When she was done, Haruka just shook her head. There was no way what Ruika said was true. There was just no way.
“I’m like your younger self? No, no, no, that cannot be true. I don’t have a problem conveying my feelings so I don’t understand why you would say such a thing. I also don’t understand why you are saying that my playing was too fast. I handle beats very well and my counting is never wrong. After a month of first learning how to play the clarinet, I never used the metronome anymore because I didn’t need it. All my instructors told me that my counting was always correct so I take great offense in that insult of yours,” Haruka said with very ounce of annoyance in her voice. That was pathetic, isn’t there a better insult she could think of?
Ruika’s next statement almost made Haruka blow up because of the anger building inside of her. First she was insulting her counting and now she was attacking her confidence level?! Whoa, that was just way too much for one day.
“Excuse me? Are you trying to teach me a lesson here? Well, guess what? I don’t need it from you! Confidence is very important factor in becoming victorious. If you’re not confident in yourself, you’ll never be able to do anything! I should know confidence way more than you do! I’ve been alive longer than you have been so I know what’s right and what’s wrong. Don’t go teaching me a lesson just because you won by a little. I demand a rematch!” Haruka shouted. When she announced that, a gust of wind swept the park making Haruka know for sure what she just said was right.
To her surprise, Mizuki’s happiness ruined the tension between the two when she exclaimed that they were going to the ice cream parlor so without even hearing Ruika’s response and without even letting her talk more about the rematch she wanted, they were both dragged by Mizuki to the ice cream parlor.
~!~!~!~
After hearing Mizuki call for her usual, Haruka spoke up next, “I would like an Oreo Cookies ‘n Cream cone, please.” She hasn’t eaten ice cream for so long so she just couldn’t resist ordering something. Beaming at the patron, she forgot she was wearing a dress not suited for places like this one but it wasn’t like she really cared.
When the patron mentioned Mizuki and her lack of friends, she was confused. By looking at Mizuki or just interacting with her, one would think she’d have lots of friends. She certainly wasn’t like her brother, Ruika, or herself so why would it be a challenge for her to make friends?
Well, since Mizuki didn’t seem like she wanted to talk about that, she shifted her gaze and her eyes landed on Ruika. Oh yes, how can she forget?
“So, what do you think about the rematch, music prodigy? Since the concours are coming up, why don’t we make it our rematch? Winner wins all.”
OOC: Ahhhh!! I must buy ice cream now!! I really really want an ice cream cone. TT__TT _________________ ~Rella~ |

Before Ruika got to say anything, Mizuki decided to drag her and Haruka to the nearest ice cream parlor. Alexei and Takuya decided to come along as well as they still had time to kill.
She didn't know what to think when they got there. It's not like she hated ice cream; she loved it (and any other sweets), so she guessed it was alright. When both Mizuki and Haruka had called their orders, she, Alexei, and Takuya called their orders.
"I'd like to have a strawberry and chocolate cone, please?" asked Ruika.
Alexei was next. "Chocolate cone please?"
And finally Takuya. "Vanilla and mint chocolate chip cone please?"
Ruika was indeed confused, as was Alexei and Takuya, since they couldn't believe that Mizuki really didn't have friends as with her personality like this, she should be quite approachable.
It wasn't long before Haruka asked her about a rematch. "So, what do you think about the rematch, music prodigy? Since the concours are coming up, why don't we make it our rematch? Winner wins all."
Ruika wasn't sure what to make of it. With her earlier comments, Haruka obviously didn't believe her words, not that she was expecting her too. Of course.. she also didn't know what the concours were. Well, she knew the definition of the word, but still.. She turned to Alexei and asked him her question.
"Hey, Alex. What are the concours exactly? I know what the word means, but since I'm new to Seiso, I was wondering about them."
"Huh," was his initial reply as he was caught off guard, but quickly answered her. "The concours is a music competition that's held within the school every few years. While everyone in the school can participate, more than likely though, only music students will be chosen."
"Ah, alright. Thanks." Ruika replied as she nodded at the end.
"Yep."
She turned back to Haruka and replied, "Hm, alright, that's if I'm chosen to participate. If I am, trust me, you'll be in trouble. Though I didn't hold back, I thought I could have played at an even higher level. I know I'm playing better comparing to three years ago, but I still think I could have played at even a higher level."
She didn't sound cold or sarcastic, like she easily could have, but she wasn't really in the mood to anymore, so it was just a normal sounding tone. Afterwards~ she was in a really cheerful mood when she got her ice cream. She was really happy and actually smiled while she was eating, definitely a different side that everyone, but Alexei, hadn't seen until now and they were probably all were confused by that. Ruika herself didn't know why that happened either, but it could have been a remnants of her old self before her parents died and before her near-death experience.
She didn't know, but she wanted it to stay that way, as she didn't want to be reminded constantly of her past. True, now everyone knew that she nearly died in the past and her real parents were dead, but her past was a lot darker then simply that. She wasn't planning on revealing that dark past to anyone and even if it somehow came up when she was talking to Alexei, she now HAD to be careful about it. She couldn't let anymore of her past leak out. It could be the one thing that could really affect her.
((Whee, finally showed her cheerful side. ^^ Outside her eating sweets, she really doesn't smile much, as she doesn't really have a reason to, which is kinda sad. And you guys have a little more insight into her past. I have a feeling that you guys are gonna find out the truth a heck of a lot sooner then the other characters, which she hopes doesn't happen.)) _________________ "For me, as long as you're saying it, it doesn't matter how slowly you say it, I'll still listen. "I think the concur's sound boring." Mizuki shrugged, taking a bite out of her strawberry and graham cracker crumb ice cream. Even though everyone else got a cone, Mizuki found it unappealing to eat in that style. She may not have dressed or acted like she'd been born and bred a rich little princess, but subtle habits gave it away, "I doubt I'll get chosen~ I'm not good at playing music, and it's not like I ever practice."
She waved her plastic spoon in the air, itching to get her laptop. Novikov-senpai; Ruika, to be exact, seemed to be in a happy mood. Mizuki desperately needed to put 'bi-polar' in the student notes, but acted her way through it with ease, "Beside's, my instrument's not meant to play alone- it's an accompaniment instrument, so that halves my chances of getting picked, either way."
Mizuki easily cleaned off her ice cream- Quick going, even for her. But the day had gone off so terribly that anything sweet was definetely easing the annoyance.
OOC: Wow. Nothing to say... x_x;; _________________
