The matchmaker 5k in Centralia was fun! I took my two boys and two of my cross country kids. Ryan Hunter (my future xc star!) also came to run. The race was well organized and the course was a no-brainer, marked very well. Flat and FAST!! The weather was perfect! All the boys ran really well and seemed to have a great time. Bill Jr. and another of my runners opted to combine their ages and run as team in the combined division taking 3rd place. My other xc runner took 2nd in his individual age division. Jake and Ryan both also ran really good races. I chased Ryan the whole way and thought I had him before the 2nd to last turn until he spotted me over his shoulder then he took off and left me. I don't anticipate ever getting that close to him in a race again though. 
This race will probably be one of my favorites for a while for two reasons, one being that I took 2 1/2 minutes off my best 5k time finishing in 23:35, placing 2nd in my age group. Also, I won an ambassador award for bringing the most runners to the race... a two night stay at the Inn at the Four Winds (beachfront room) in Seaside, OR. One other bonus... I beat the female xc coach for Centralia!!
By the way thank you Dave for cheering me on!! It was much appreciated, pushed me to run my first mile in 7:30 which I was sure I couldn't keep up but I did in fact have an overall pace of 7:35!!!! We shall see if I can get out of bed tomorrow! |
