I took 3 of my XC kids to run the Forest park 10k on Sunday. I opted to not run the 50k as originally planned due to attending Track State and lack of training. I am glad I changed my mind, I was nowhere near ready for 31 miles. The weather was rainy making the trails slick and muddy but it was a trail run so who cares thats what they are all about.  My XC kids did pretty well, Cole Blackstone finished 3rd overall. I didn't do so well but instead just set out to enjoy a trail run which I hadn't done in a while and glad I did, it was fun.
I ran into Kevin Filkwoski before the race but didn't think to ask what distance he was running. The race offered a 10, 20, 30, and 50k. I waited at the finish line for awhile hoping to see Kevin come in, thinking he was running the 20 or 30k. Nope, never saw him. Came home, checked the results... KEVIN RAN THE 50K!! Sneaky he is for not telling anyone what he was up to. Congrats Kevin on your 50k finish. That was no easy course with 3,100 feet of elevation gain. Another Ultra Runner in the midst of the CVR's!!!
