THE NIGHT RIDE | July 12 - Portland
See the city at night - by bike! When you ride with the Nighttime Club, you see the city in a whole new light. The Night Ride is Portland's only nighttime adventure ride to experience dramatic cityscape views, flaming entertainers and glowing hula-hoopers. Blinking signs will guide you through this flat, well-marked course on a journey like no other. Sure, you like sleep, but rest up while you can because on July 12th there's no turning in early with all the excitement on this ride.
Bedtime, schmedtime. This ride is a benefit for the Bicycle Transportation Alliance so there is no reason to sleep through it.
Along the way you'll watch movies from Filmed by bike, a film festival that features bicycle-themed short movies. The organizers are creating a gigantic theater with an enormous screen in a secluded North Portland field. All of the movies are under eight minutes, so you can watch a few quickies then move on to the next rest stop. After that it's on to the Disco Party Rest Stop at the Candy Shack where you can trick or treat without supervision. Shove handfuls of candy in your face and then use that sugar buzz to boogie, hustle or electric slide across the dance floor; disco ball, fog machines, strobe lights and hula hoops included. But keep your electric slide in check because there's still more riding to do as you make your way to the finish line party for the live marimba band and an all-you-can-eat doughnut feast. Yummmmm!
There are prizes for the best costumes and free custom-made reflectors for all costumed riders, so come dressed to impress. This creative ride always features some outrageous get-ups. Think you can top them? ORbike wants you to try! Then send us your photos and we'll put them up on our blog.
Save big when you register before the ride and when you register at participating locations. You may register online before 7/11 and at the start line. See the website for details. |
