OK, this sounds odd. I have noticed the past week or so that Willy's hair on the back of his neck was getting much darker. I thought it was a crease in the hair where his neck bends. After further investigation, I discovered that the hair is much shorter. Then Milly's started doing the same thing. Lilly is still OK.
Tonight when I was watching them play, Lilly was climbing on the other 2 and nibbling on their necks (on the short hair). Is she pulling it out, or what's going on? Willy and Milly don't seem to mind this at all.
I don't know if it's her way of playing, or if there is a reason she is doing it.
I checked their necks closely. I don't see any rashes, discoloration of skin, or anything different at all.
Has anyone else ever went through this before? Willy and Milly are going to start looking very odd!

By the way, Lilly and Milly are gaining weight quite rapidly. Pups may be here soon! I don't know how much longer I can wait! I don't remember being this anxious about our own children!

It sounds like Lilly is probably the more dominant on the three and is showing her dominance by fur chewing it could also be linked to the stresses of pregnancy too as research has shown degus will chew their own or other degus fur to combat stress. I wouldn't worry too much about it the fur will grow back in time. If you wanted to help it on its way then you could use a mild moisturiser (such as E45 cream or oil of evening primrose cream or a unscented moisturiser designed for a baby) and rub a little into the affected area once a day (make sure you rub it in well) and this will help soften the skin and encourage the fur to regrow Smile
