OK,everybody, I need advice pretty quick I don't know how much time we have, but here's what's going on.
As most of you know, our Lilly has been expecting pups for what seems like years now.
Well, the time is really close. We were watching her babies moving all around in her tummy while she was eating. SO COOL! Our kids thought that was the greatest thing on earth!
Now, Lilly, Milly, and Willy have been together since birth. VERY CLOSE! I know that I need to move Willy out before the pups are born for a few days, but I was wondering about Milly. I'm pretty sure that she is expecting, too, but not for a little while.
Should Milly move out with Willy until the pups are a few days old, or should she be kept with Lilly to be with her during labor? Their cages are right beside each other. They can see each other clearly through the bottom aquariums.
Who gets Milly for company????
I will be posting this on another site to try to get opinions ASAP, so you may see me again.

I would keep the two females together as they will help each other bring up the pups. I would remove Willy especially if both females are expecting and when the pups are old enough try to bond him with a pup or two if you don't want anymore litters _________________

I have a few questions as well. I got my two lil girls about mid-end of June. When I got them, I was told they both were girls. I have checked them myself, and have confirmed them as girls. So, my one lil girl is about two weeks from having her pups, and I am left trying to figure out when the heck she got pregnant. If she was pregnant when I first got her, then she is overdue at this point. Which begs the the question: can degus have instances of hermaphrodites? And if not, how long is the gestation for sure? |

It would be more then likely your little girl was pregnant when you got as the gestation period is 3 months so she would be due within the next week or so. I haven't ever read about there being a case of a hermaphrodite amongst degus and i think it very unlikely. If she is pregnant i would assume it happened just before you got her as degus are often kept in mixed tanks _________________
