Hi Degu fans! Ok, we have had the two rascals for a week now and they have been climbing out onto our hands and sitting there, investigating etc...we have been giving them treats when they come out, just so they know its a good thing.
Now in the past few days, both of them, especially Stumpy, have taken to nibbling our hands when they come out. I wouldnt say a full on bite, more "tasting".
Now is this because we have put treats on our hands and they are expecting it? Or is it because they are just young and curious? |

Well i don't have Degus... yet but i do have 2 chinchillas who nibble on my finger when they like you so maybe your Degus are just making it shown that they like you!
Better wait for someone who has Degus though to give you a better and more certain answer _________________ Rachx

Degus tend to nibble as a greeting, its their way of saying hello. Sometimes they don't realise how hard they are actually biting and can get a little carried away. They could also be doing it if they can smell the treats on your hands as they are young and won't distinguish between your hand and the treat as they smell the same. Try washing your hands before handling and if they continue to do so then take it as an honour as they tend to nibble when they accept you as part of the pack _________________
