Hey guys,
I don't think my degus have taken a sand bath before but they're not too interested in rolling around the sand! Any suggestions? How do I introduce them to it? I tried putting them in a bowl with sand but they scrambled right out and then proceeded to ignore it completely.
Thanks for your help! |

Try leaving it in the cage (if you don't already) as they are quite curious and nosey so interest will soon get the better of them. Degus instinctively know what to do in sand but some do take more time then others to have a go _________________

ah thats helpful as I dont think my 2 have ever been given sand as the previous owners didnt mention it and they gave us everything they had for them including a table that they had the cage on plus the running wheel they had broken (??) I went out today to get some chinchilla sand from our local pet store and put it in a china dish (the type you cook pies in but I dont use) and houdini jumped in and just sat there for a bit and then dug to the bottom (I didnt put it in very thick though maybe 1/2 an inch if that?) then realised it wasnt food and jumped straight back out again and they both sat there and loked at me as if to say 'yes? its sand? and what do you expect me to do with that? lol |

They will soon get used to it, the last rescues i took in didn't have a clue and looked blank when i put it in and the one i swear was scared of it. I left it there and by the morning there was tell tale signs one or both had been in, took a few days but i saw them both bathing quite freely in it _________________
