Help everyone!
Our Beti was today neutered. we finally find a vet with a experience and who can be trusted. But now we are so worried. He is still breathing, thank god. But he doesn't move at all. When proceeding was over he was awake and wanted to jump already, he was much alive and moving. But than he got an antibiotic and we put him in a transport cage and bring him home but from than he didn't move for 2 hours at all. The vet said he will be sleepy but I'm scared is normal to be so un live?? Please help me with any advice!!
Thank you people and pray for Beti like we do for him and all degus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

It could be a symptom of the anaesthetic as it takes time to wear off plus he will be in discomfort so maybe sleeping more as degus tend to do that if they are in pain. If you are worried ring your vet as they will be able to see if there are any complications. I hope Beti is ok, sending healing vibes from all of us his way and please keep us posted _________________

Try to keep him warm and in a quiet spot. He will eat when he is ready, you may need to give him water though to keep him hydrated as thats really important. Like i mentioned before it might be worthwhile asking your vets opinion over the phone _________________

Thanks! But he don't wont to drink, he slowly moved away his favourite treat. He is under warm blanket. Must we forced him to drink? Our Vet is away till tomorrow morning. Tomorrow if he will survive night we must again drive him 60 km far for another antibiotic. I don't know his heart will survive that shock. You can see he is in a lot of pain. We suffer all. Poor baby. HE MUST GET OUT ALIVE THIS 24 CRITICAL HOUR! Kirsty did degu of the people you know and who has been neutered act the same? |

He needs to drink as its important to keep him hydrated in order to keep his body and system working. If he won't drink you will need to feed him water, do you have something like a dropper to drip water into his mouth? Normally a few drops every couple of hours will be ok, its just to keep the system going. The main thing is he is warm as this will help him with the pain. You also should ask your vet about probiotics as they will help his body get over the shock. You usually put them into the water and the animal intakes them when they drink, they will help his system get over the shock.
The people i know who have had their degus neutered all said the first night they was quiet and slept most of it but by the next day they was up and about, not their usual self but eating, drinking etc on their own. With any operation there can be problems though especially on an animal so small, if you are worried then ring the vets even if you talk to a different vet they might have an idea of anything that could have gone wrong. We all have our fingers crossed for Beti, really hope he pulls through the night _________________

He drunk only few drops of water over the night, eat nothing!!!! He lost so much weight, that he has holes....Now we must drive him to the wet where he will stay till tomorrow I think. So he said. To observe him. I have never seen him so passive and I can't believe this. Thank you for good words....

aaaawwwww poor Beti, i hope he will be ok and make a full recovery, he is in the best possibl hands now and they will do all they can to make him comfortable. This happened to my friends degu after a minor operation and after two days at the vets and medicine for the pain he was back to normal and four years on is fighting fit. You are all in our thoughts _________________

Thank you so so so much!!
Beti is home we just arrived. When he saw us in the hospital he was excited, the most nice vet i know feed him with some kind of pasta, his fur look more healthy, he don't have so big holes in his belly. He let us to corry him behind ears.
Now he is home, he won't have a piece of nut, but he drink!! He is still looking so poor. My boyfriend just said that he probably thinks that whole world left him..
I hope he will be in few days so strong that he could finally be with Lili. Lili is feeling something, she just lie and now when she doesn't nurse anymore she is so alone. I hope they will be soon together!!!
Thank you god and thank god for this forum. If I asked the same questions about our situation in Slovenian forum
Beti would probably be death by now... |
