Ok, I seem to think I've read this somewhere else, so I'm beginning to think it must be silly season for Degus right now.
My babies have decided in the last week that every now and again they start bugging each other. At first I thought they were taking chunks out of each other, so ran hysterically into the kitchen to see what was going on.
It seems they sit quite near each other, then all of a sudden Bash (half the size of Slick) runs up to Slick seems to nip him and then runs off squeaking his head off. Slick makes chase and they then run round dodging each other till they get bored. Things calm down, then Bash does it again, lol. Slick did catch Bash a couple of times, but never nipped him, they just played ''handbags'' (as I call it) then went on their merry ways again.
No-one is getting hurt, I've just never seen it before. First night it happened I opened the cage and gave them some love, thinking I had to split them up, but the 2 times we've had this little game, I just shout to pack it in and they both stop and just go back to whatever they were doing before.
Just wondering if any of your goos do the same, lol. They're so well behaved stopping when I say, so there's no worry of proper fighting, in fact I kind of find it funny now I no neither is in danger _________________
Sounds like play fighting, my boys are always at it and they don't half make a noise Usually fizzles out as quickly as it starts and sounds worse then it is. My favourite one is the foursome one of them Ted is lazy, would spend all day in the hammock if he could. Well sometimes when he is fast asleep one of the others (usually Dougal) will wait till he is asleep and then run past him at high speed or jump and land on him and he jumps up squawking at them, its really funny to watch. Degus do the silliest things at times _________________
Yeah, it does sound like play fighting. That's a fairly common way for many social mammals to play. Can't say I'd want to play fight with another human, but I guess it's fun for Degus. LOL
It's pretty amazing how they'll listen when you tell them "no". Imana listens really well too, and it really surprises me. _________________
