my degu wont eat veg, so far i have tried carrot, broccoli, green beans, peas and mint from the garden as iv'e read they like this but sam wont even taste it any sugestions as to what i should do. iv'e only had him 24hrs so he might still be settling in as he was found in someones garden, but was at the rescue center for 3 weeks. so do you all think i should just give him a bit more time to settle & start eating, or should i bribe him with something else, any tips would be good, i dont want him getting upset digestive system by not eating his veg. |

Not all degus will eat vegetables and they can be quite picky when they do I think a lot of it goes back to their upbringing as to whether or not they have been introduced to veggies at a young age although saying that i have taken in rescues who have never had veggies and they have tried anything i have given them. The thing to do is to keep trying him with different ones as one might take his fancy and then you can go back and see if he will try any he has refused before. I have also found that some prefer dried veggies such as dried carrot and dried peas so they might be worth trying.
I have one who won't eat anything that looks remotely like it might have lived once despite years of trying and he is thriving still at nearly 6 years of age so i don't think not eating veggies can harm them in the long run _________________

My boys eat veg but i think thats because they came to me as babies, where as the girls who were adults dont want to know.
I will keep trying the girls just in case something takes their fancy _________________ * Ann *
