Degus have a pretty high pain threshold so if it is troubling him it could be hurting him but if he is acting as normal there is a chance its not bothering him that much and maybe giving him a little discomfort. I would recommend giving him a thorough going over, make sure he has nothing in his paw that could be causing him to favour the other leg, make sure his nails are all ok and check to see if you can feel any breakages as this could help you rule out a few things. From the sound of it i don't think it is broken as he is still using it so he could just have knocked himself up slightly or bruised it. I would try keeping him in a small cage for a day or two and giving him cage rest and see how he fares as on a whole degus tend to mend themselves if given full cage rest. Maybe give your vet a call and see what they say and if he is no better after strict cage rest take him down there for a check over. I wouldn't recommend giving him anything as they have a pretty high pain threshold and if he is in any pain i would take him to your vets and see what they say. Keep us posted _________________

ive only had him a week or so, as he was found in a garden with half a tail so he isnt used to being touched yet, but he does seem to be a little better this morning he used that foot to scratch himself so i thought of putting one of my chinchillers in there as you would a human who had bumped themselves (like a cold compress) and see if he sits on it what do you think good idea or a hair brained one. am taking to vet anyway (once he looks up degu in his ref books that is)to see what he thinks |

I can't see the chinchiller harming him and your right it would act as a cold compress and reduce any swelling. The big question is will he sit on it? I provided my boys will them in the heat earlier this year and they all sat anywhere but on it If he is using it then it is more than likely on the mend and probably just requires more rest. My vet is the same he hasn't a clue what a degu is, he gets his books out every time _________________

well its not broken and he seems to be getting better he stood up on his hind legs and he has scratched himself behind the ear, but still has a bit of a limp, & he didnt bite the vet thankfully, (just as well because the vet wasnt really sure what was what) |
