So I have 3 baby girls (or so I am told) they are 8 weeks old. One of them keeps trying to mount another and chases her round the cage. Is this a play thing that females do or should I be worried that I have a rogue male in there? I have seen this happen about 3 times in 24 hours. We have only had them for 2 days.......I do hope not as they are all litter mates and should all be female. I have tried to sex them but being a new degu mummy am not 100% sure what I am looking at. I also read that their bits change as they mature, is this right? Any helpful replies and re-assurance would be greatly received. |

Its a dominence thing all degus do even females
Did you get them from a breeder? Or a petshop? If they were from a breeder then there is every chance they are all the same sex but if they are from a petshop it might be worth double checking to be on the safe side. I have a diagram on here of how to sex your degu
Degus don't overly change underneath as they mature like a lot of other animals do it just becomes more noticeable the distance between the urethra (the dangly bit) and the anus as they mature _________________
