Ive heard on other forums that Gerty Guinea pig isnt too good for degus. I used to feed it until I read that its like 'junk food' for degus - it contains additives and colouring etc. I only give it as a treat now. My boys eat Jr Degu Special - u can get it from the zooplus website. |

Gerty Guinea Pig is one of the better feeds as it has added vitamin c and no added sugars and is degu safe. Myself and Chloe at Degutopia both recommend it. I've been keeping degus for 11 years and fed it since day one and i've not had a sickly degu yet. Although i mix mine with other stuff and bulk it out. Any food even that from zoo plus with the biscuits has colourings and additives its just made to look better by having herbs and leaves added _________________

Oh thats good was getting a bit worried...but knew it had been recomended!! So should I keep giving them the chinchilla pellets or is gertie ok on its own? Also how much am i supposed to feed them as, as soon as I fill the bowl most of its gone and I feel sorry for them having nothing so they get two bowls a day! |

Becareful with chinchilla pellets unless they are pets at homes nuggets or the beaphar chinchilla plus one as a lot of chinchilla pellets contain mollasses which is a sugar
Are they eating it all or picking out the good bits? Also do you have one bowl or a bowl per degu? _________________

I have one bowl which is filled twice a day. they seem to pick most of it out then leave most of the pellets with a few rubbishy bits. |

I usually advise a bowl per degu, my foursome have a large food bowl and then 3 smaller ones and i fill mine every couple of days _________________
