Hello,
I am in desperate need of advice. One of my boys suddenly died this morning and now I am so worried about his brother.
I have four boys which I had to seperate due to fighting and now that one has died I have a lonley boy.
My partner and I are going to try to re-introduce them slowly but i get the feeling that it wont work as we have been here with them before. During this process is there anything at all that i can do to stop him from feeling so lonley?? Like a soft toy (is this safe?)
I am so sad at the loss of my baby. (Frank)He was fine and happy last night and I woke up to find him on the floor of his cage. The vet had told us that he was suffering with acne as he had a small lump on his cheek but this had almost completely cleared up with antibiotics so i was so shocked and upset to find him thismorning.
I dont want my boy (Jimi) to suffer with the loss so what can i do to keep him occupied? - Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Nancy x |

Im reallt sorry for ur loss Nancy.
ive heard of a degu with acne! Some people do put a soft toy with single chinchillas (with no buttons e.g. eyes noses) but i dont know about degus. He may chew it. Do you live ne where near Swindon? Ive got a poorly degu whos likely to be put to sleep soon and so ill be left like u with one lonely male. Im trying to find a home where he can be introduced to a playmate. |

I live in Gosport (nr Portsmouth)
I know that the re-introduction wont work as we had terrible fighting going on when we seperated them. I am so upset at the thought that he will die of lonliness. Already he is irritable and wont let me near him. He is just running around with lumps of bedding but not settling down.
I know this probably sounds awful but I think I may need to re home him. I dont think I will be able to cope with the heartache of the others picking on him again and its too sad to see him alone.
I will need to speak to my husband as he adores our boys and would hate to lose another...But I just cant bear to see him unhappy (my degus not my husband)
I cant quite get over how much I have grieved today. I suppose you really dont know what you have got until its gone....
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly x |

I know how u feel - ive lost 2 degus in the last few yrs. well i had to have them put to sleep - in a way i'd have rather they passed like urs did by themselves.
Im not sure how far Portsmouth is from Swindon - u wouldnt be interested in rehoming my little guy? Dont feel bad if you do have to re-home him - we are only trying to do whats best for them. x |
