Hiya

We are getting our john hopewell Giant cage, which is not due for delivery until 5th December (we have to wait longer as we changed it from the large degu cage to the giant haha), so obviouisly not getting the degus until after this.
However, if we get the degus on the friday night, my partner is away visiting his parents that weekend , and I am working on the saturday night at 6pm through until 6pm the next day.
I know it is good to let the degus have quiet time in their cage, so thought this could be a good opportunity, but then worried about feeding.

Firstly how often per day do they need feeding?  and how much?   was thinking I could give them their food before I go to work, and thenupon my return.

Usually my partner is here all of the time, just happens to be the weekend the cage is coming, he is away, d'oh.

Obviously if you think it is better to wait, we will.  I am totally new to this.

I used to (i dont have any degus anymore) feed twice a day.  Once in morning once at night.  Id give them (i had 2 ) a handfull of food each time.  There is another forum in which sum1 actually said the amount in grmas u should be giving.  U also gotta make sure they have lots of hay to eat - fills their wee bellies n is essential for grinding down their teeth.

I personally would wait until u know u are going to be around b4 u get them.  Not necessarily for the feeding aspect, but because their surroundings are going to be new to them, they may be stressed after the journey n id just wanna be there to check in on them every few hours.
