Do you just give your degu some raisins-fresh and every thing?

Fortnight? Whats that?
Does Each degu get one or do they share and do you give it them in the cage or out side?

Degus are diabetic right? And raisins have sugar in them right? So isn't that bad for them? |

No degus aren't diabetic but they can't metabolize sugar very well and if given too much sugar they can develop diabetes. So its a good idea to keep them on a low sugar diet as they can handle sugar in very small doses so one raisin every few weeks won't harm them _________________

Personally, I never give raisins to my degus.
Many do, and feel its fine. Amethysbelle does so in moderation and thats fine.
However, raisins are among the sweetest fruits out there. Seeing how many degus do develop diabetes after a while, I abstain from giving them any such treats.
Even sweet vegetables such as carrots and peppers should be given in small, moderate amounts.
I prefer to reward my degus with plain Oats.
As food supplementary foods, they get chopped celery, spinach, fresh basil and pieces of corn flakes. (only once in a while, since these cereals are made of corn and do contain starch) |
