Hi there - Ali here...I have not posted in a long time. Jade is two in a couple of weeks and she has been resisting her afternoon nap for the past month...I would say she actually sleeps two days a week out of seven. The other days she yells/cries/sings/talks/begs ("mommy carry you...mommy get you up....mommy will come in a minute..."for the entire time she is in the crib. I have tried to tell her that if she cannot sleep she can just rest or play with her stuffed animals or look at her books and that I will come back after one hour to get her up. Her room is darkened, but she can see the pictures in her books.
I am starting to dread this time as I can't stand the days when she just yells or cries the entire time. My hope is that it will just turn into a rest time as baby number two arrives at the end of March and i need a break in the day from her. However it won't work if she is wailing away the entire time....any suggestions?
Jade dropped her morning nap at about 13 months (which seemed early to me) so in some ways this does not surprise me that she is trying to drop this one. On the days she does not sleep I do put her to bed by 6:30pm and she will often sleep through until 7-7:30am and to be honest bed time is way easier than on the days she does not take an afternoon nap.
thanks,
Ali _________________

Yup, it certainly sounds like she's on her way to giving up that nap - so, I would just go with it, although it's SO frustrating to put them in for that nap & think that you'll have some peace & quiet, only to have to listen to them chatter, yell, etc... on the monitor . As she begins to adjust, her morning (single)nap will start shifting later & later & eventually it will end up being in the afternoon, but for now, I would just keep offering the "nap" depending on the quality of that first nap - but if she sounds miserable, etc.. after 30 minutes, it may be best to just forget it.....
My little guy tranisitioned to one nap before his 2nd bday & the earlier bedtime was a necessary & crucial part of our survival ..... _________________ Kris
