Hi,

I've been on the site before with my first daughter and implemented a number of great tips - she's 3 now and still a great sleeper.

Number 2 (Ryley) is similar but asserting her individuality already.  She's 6 months now.  She has 2 great daytime naps (2+ hours each), and goes to bed by 6PM.  She sleeps until 1AM religiously and wakes crying.  I've tried to let her cry it out with no success (she will cry for 30 minutes, sleep for 10-15 and then start crying again, over and over until I finally give in and feed her).  She's still breastfed and has just started solids.  I'm trying to get her on formula but won't take a bottle as of yet.  After 1AM, she will go back to sleep until 6-7AM (I feed her again) and then will wake and doze until around 9ish.

I'm not sure if I should be pushing the formula harder to get her off me....sometimes it seems like she is less hungry than just wanting to see me at 1AM....little darling!

Perhaps waking at 1AM and 6AM is totally normal and I should just cut her some slack....it's just that my first slept 12 hours through the night by 5 months.

Should I stop feeding her at night and just try different reassurance?  Is it reasonable that she could be hungry and need to be fed, or is the night waking just a habit?

Any tips are appreciated.  Char

Hi Char!

I would say that 7 hours of sleep between feedings at night is pretty reasonable for her age, but it depends on the baby. My son is almost 7 months and we are just cutting out the last night feeding now. If she will not settle for anything but nursing, it is possible that she is actually hungry. I found that after Cole started solids, he was able to sleep longer at night, but not all kids are the same. I just posted on Lia's question board called Sleep Pattern about ways to try to prolong feedings. Check it out and post again if you have more questions.

Hi Char,

Perhaps at 6months, Ryley is going through a bit of a growth spurt & until she gets used to more solids, she may be hungry.  If she is actually eating well at that feeding, then it sounds okay ... if she is just playing around & only taking in a small amount, then perhaps it's just a habit.
