What I would really like to discuss is which of all the Friday the 13th books you have written is your favorite and why? I assume that perhaps it is Mothers Day being it is the film that is being made however that could also be because it was the first book in the series as well.

Personally, after a lot of thinking, I have come to the conclusion that The Carnival is my favorite.

I have to say that of the original four books both Mother's Day and Jason's Curse are my favorites. The Carnival and Road Trip were difficult books for me to write because I had a lot less time to finish them.
But I did have some good expectations for The Carnival. Originally it was going to be my hommage to Something Wicked This Way Comes. Unfortunately, with all the editing and lack of time to research carnivals it ended up being far less than I wanted it to be.
But it's nice to know someone liked it....

I just read Mother's Day.  I haven't yet read the others.  Good work, Eric.   Thanks for bringing Pamela back onto center stage.  I have to admit that I wasn't hooked at the very beginning of the novel, but your writing style grew on me as I continued reading.    Since I'm an historian, Carly lost points with me early on when she disses that "American history stuff."  Nevertheless, she is such a sympathetic character that I quickly forgave her this egregious lapse.   I especially liked the character of Ned Varner and the homage to Psycho.   I look forward to reading the sequels.

I do not think there is any need to talk down about this book. I think it is a far greater success then you realize. Instead of a hommage, it is it's own creation and personally I think it is a fantastic story! I've never been introduced to a character quite like Maxi who isn't too aroggant in her rebellious/suicidal attitude, or too conceded with her beauty. You mixed the elements of her personality elegantly and I think thats where the real strength of this book lies. Aside from that, the evil atmosphere of crystal lake creating homocidal rides was fun. Every kill or close call was as entertaining as the next and the way you described the carnival in the book I could invision it nicely inside my head. I really believe that there is a lot to this book that not enough people have read to properly acknowledge here.

I'm glad you enjoyed the book. As I've said Mother's Day is one of my favorites. Carly and Albert were in many ways extentions of myself. My mother was very protective, but not to the extent of Carly's mom. And, I was very close to my mother. Of course not in the Mrs. Voorhees or Mrs. Bates way. It was just that my mom and I hung out together. We both enjoyed horror and sci fi movies, so she would go with me and my friends to see the films. In a way hanging out with me and my buds kept her young. It wasn't until my father got really sick and she and I had to take care of him that she started feeling her age.

One thing I can say about The Carnival is that the editor didn't take the knife to it as much as the others. It still retains all the supernatural aspects that I originally wrote into it. I think this is mostly due to the fact that I wrote Road Trip before it and stratigically mentioned many of the items I wanted to keep in it. Thus, the editor couldn't cut them out because it would have messed up the continuity.

And I've really noted that you like Maxie. For me my favorite two female characters in the series have to be Carly and Kelly.  Still Maxie is very much one of my ladies. I was very close to the girl I based Maxie on, but I've told you that before.....

Kelly is a favorite of mine also. But I think the reason I liked Maxie so much is because we've similiar in a lot of ways. And in the few ways we aren't, she has the exact things in life that i've only ever wanted. But it doesn't matter, even with it she was toxic and her dying last at the end was perfect.
