I lucked out on Friday November 9th and had the day off from working at the Century 20 theatre, so I headed to the other Century Theatre in Redwood City, the Century Park 12, and spent the day at the opening day of After Dark Horrorfest. I actually spent ten hours at Horrorfest and watched four of the eight films.
Anyway, I thought I'd give you my thoughts on the films I watched.
CRAZY EIGHTS
SYNOPSIS:
Six people are brought together at the funeral of a childhood
friend. While settling the estate, they discover a map, which leads them on
a search for a long forgotten time capsule, at the request of their dead
friend. What they discover reawakens repressed childhood traumas and leads
them on a journey through their long abandoned childhood home: a home with a
terrible secret and a mysterious dead girl who will lead them to their
strange fates.
MY THOUGHTS:
I would love to go up to the director of this film and say, “Hey, man, I just saw your film. What the F*** was it about???” This was one of those psychological horror films that was full of emotions and situations, but it was boring as hell..Still it had a couple of things that were it's saving grace....it had Tracy Lords....and it had Tracy Lords. The rest of it delt with a freaky dead girl and people dying....But it did have Tracy Lords, so it wasn't totally bad...

LAKE DEAD
SYNOPSIS:
Three beautiful sisters learn of a long lost grandfather, but only make this discovery upon the news of his grisly death. Enticed to visit grandpa's old home after hearing of an inheritance, the sister's head to the back country with some friends. We quickly follow the group of friends through the gates of a redneck infested hell. The psychotic family occupying the inherited property goes on a long awaited, and much enjoyed killing spree. As the family's twisted motives unravel, the sisters discover a terror worse than death.
MY THOUGHTS:
A very typical redneck incest slasher flick. At times this film can be funny... like when Momma Lake asks her son for a kiss and gives him the tongue. Besides that it is nice to see the Gieco cavemen have found other work, since their sitcom sucks. As this year's answer to last year's THE HAMILTONS this one falls short....

UNEARTHED
SYNOPSIS:
A vicious creature that’s been trapped for 900 years, gets unearthed during an archeological dig in the middle of a desolate town. As the carnage escalates, the local sheriff and a group of stranded civilians must find a way to destroy the creature that only has one mission – complete annihilation.
MY THOUGHTS:
This is a wonderful monster attacks small town film. It's full of lots of slaughter, explosions, and people doing stupid things. But I must ask why is it that every alien monster in these films over the last ten years look like the one from ALIEN???
Rating ** + * for the nasty wormy things....
THE DEATHS OF IAN STONE
SYNOPSIS:
On an otherwise ordinary night, the young Ian Stone encounters a mysterious creature and is forced into the path of an oncoming train. Rather than facing certain death, Ian finds himself reborn into a new life that feels strangely familiar. After his second death, it becomes apparent that Ian is being hunted by an evil presence, and will be forced to die every day until he can solve the mystery of his own life.
MY THOUGHTS:
This is the best film I've seen so far at Horrorfest. The best way I can describe this film is try combining Jacob's Ladder, Constantine, and Donnie Darko, and you will get a bit of an idea how good this film is. Stan Winston does some fanastic special effects. The acting is fanastic. The story is fast paced and doesn't disappoint. And it has some good old fashioned scares...

I'll be going back to Horrorfest on Tuesday to see a couple more films. I'll give another update on those films as well..... _________________ T.T.F.N.
