|
|
While researching my Family history i came across Primrose and
Coalmuir Cottages, both in Glencorse Parish.
Does anyone have a clue where they were? Or if the buildings still exsist
under other names?
My 4x Great Grandad Andrew Buchan was the Overseer at Glencorse mains Farm, and lived at Primrose at the time of the 1841 census.
My 3x Great Grandad John Buchan lived at Coalmuir Cottages at the time of the 1851 census. So far i have hit a brick wall trying to locate these places, no luck at local studies in Loanhead or with Lothians Family
History society.
Any help would be appreciated

Sorry, Davie. I've looked through the Annals of Penicuik and there's no mention of these cottages. It was a long shot anyway. _________________

There are still a couple of old red brick miners' cottages at Glencorse. I'll nip round for a look tomorrow. |

On second thoughts, if the worked for the farm, they were unlikely to be living in miners' cottages.
Maybe the best bet would be around Easter Howgate. There are still a few oldish cottages there. |

Hi Davie
You maybe know already - but the Penicuik Historical Society meet on Mon 31st March and maybe there might be someone there whose brain you could pick? (The actual meeting is about Onion Johnnies, that you have all mentioned on the forum. It looks quite interesting.)
Similarly the Penicuik Family History Group might also have people whoe brains you can pick.
Details of both are in the Town Crier. _________________
