That's smashing, Spry! Ever-obliging, he is.
Don't the houses look smart? Are those new roofs they've got? I seem to remember them as having those blue slates before.
No' a bad sky you've found to show them off, too. |

Well done Spry Davie and Anon for the quick and fruitful research and photos, sorry Im not much use at this end! But I do appreciatte the wee mysteries and Qs posted here on the Forum about Penicuik. Now how about the tower I heard about? it was called terreagles or something................. _________________ Keep Youth in your heart and you'll never grow old |

Oh, we solved that one yonks ago!
Spry has a photo of Terregles Tower being built up in his attic, but he hasn't managed to find it yet.
Bits of the demolished tower were used to build the wall around the High Park - there are sections where you can see solid lumps of masonry have been shoved in, instead of the careful one-by-one placement of a real drystane dyke. There are even bits of window, upside down, in a couple of places.
So it looks as though Spry's suggested location was right, because it couldn't have been far away from where that wall is now. |
