It's over half a century since I was up that way but today I took a run up on the way to Penicuik. Do you know, I wasn't quite sure where I was? At a bend in the road, I thought I was there but I couldn't see the gate that I thought I remembered. There was a gated track that rose steeply and I don't recall that. And on the gate there was a notice to the effect that it was private and that admittance was only by application. It didn't say that it was Glencorse auld kirk. Was I in the right place or not?
By the way, there was a driveway straight ahead to a private house. _________________

That's the one. I said I couldn't remember a steep track
up to the kirk but there must have been, because I do remember an ancient notice on the gate --------
"Put a stoot he'rt tae a stey brae"
i.e. put a stout heart to a steep brae ------ far more interesting than the present mundane "Private" notice (that is, if I have got the right place!). _________________

You were at the right place. It's been closed for casual visitors since that wedding. Re-roofed, re-floored wi' red carpet, qwidden pews, new windees and everything.
I usually jist climb ower the gate. There's never naebdie aboot. |
