Ok...I'm back as I was in the pool the other day and thought of you all...not in a pervy way...but in a way I know some of you would relate to my anger.
I've been back in Penicuik for a month due to having to move out my lovely flat cos of mice infestation (yup it got that bad). I've been enjoying being back with my mum and dad for a bit (well fed etc) and fancied a wee dip in the Penicuik pool.
My mum and I decided to have a girly swim and a soak in the jacuzzi. We paid just over £14 to use the pool and health suite. However, when we got to the health suite the jacuzzi was not in use (and had not been for a while) and we had not been told prior to paying. My mum doesn't like saunas or steam rooms and didn't use them at all. I had a wee lie in the sauna - I walked into the steam room and came straight back out cos it was practically cold. When we finished our swim I went to the main desk to say that we were not told the jacuzzi was broken and £7 seemed like a lot for my mum to pay especially since she didn't use any of the health suite facillities. The boss then stated that we payed for "the package" which means we could not get some of our money refunded. If you pay for the health suite surely you are paying for a full working package and should be told if one of the items in "the package" is out of use.
GRRRRRR
I'm returning to Edinburgh on Friday, moving to Nicolson Street in a top floor flat. I won't be returning to the pool anytime soon. _________________ Cake or Death? |

Hello, Sooz - welcome back to Midlothian! (Even though only briefly.)
I agree, you had a raw deal at the pool - they surely ought to have told you that they weren't going to give you anything for your money. That sounds like fraud to me! (Not that I'm a lawyer, so don't sue me.)
I wonder how many other people have paid for something that wasn't there - and just how much they've been making for non-existent "facilities". |

I don't like to make us fuss but "package" to me would suggest everything is in working order. Partial package is what we got and not what we thought we paid for. An OAP who was in with me was also very angry and had the same problem. I was angry thay mt lovely mummy paid £7 just to swim some lengths! _________________ Cake or Death? |

Good to see you back Sooz.
I worked for 12 years at Loanhead Leisire Centre, and there was no way that would have happened there. We always informed customers if
a piece of aparatus wasn't working iether verbaly or by notices.
There seems to be a lack of customer care at the new centre.
Twice in the past month my wife has been waiting for the centre to open at 9am, just to be told that the pool was closed.
Why someone could not go out and tell people some who had been waiting for 10 mins is beyoned me. _________________

From my experience I'd say that the majority of the staff at the Penicuik Centre are very, very poor at their job. Some blame can be attributed to their personal failings, but more blame is attributed to their managers lack of ability to do the job.
It'll get a lot worse before it'll get any better I'm afraid.... |

I'm sure that around the 'reception' area you will find 'complaint form.
These days, Councils are (supposedley) 'customer' conscious. I personally think that they are just going through the motions.
But I recommend that you fill in a complaint form, but dont hand it in to reception - post it direct to the council.
It may help prevent some other person being 'fleeced'...

It's a shame as I'm now not willing to go down and pay for something that might not be working. I also payed recently for the health suite and was told 10mins into my session they were shutting it for cleaning. I've only been in once over my month in Penicuik when the jacuzzi was working. The rest of the time there has been no signs saying it wasn't. I was speaking to an OAP regular who was telling me the jacuzzi rarely works. I won't be coming back to the pool anytime soon but keep me up to date if things improve. I feel the steam room needs a good scrub as is smells like foosty feet and i felt there was a severe lack of steam when I was in it! The sauna is lovely but I don't feel we should be paying £7 for a sauna.
My mum was also disgusted by the toilets in the changing areas (I don't use them as I know they're mingen) that were stinking of stale urine and the floor was covered in soggy loo roll.
Can't say I'm impressed. _________________ Cake or Death? |

I heard the same bad reports from another party this afternoon, Sooz, and as silvers has suggested, they made an official complaint, in their case by letter, to the Midlothian Local Authority. _________________

I'm really glad it's not just me, I hope something is done about it as it's so good to have a pool in Penicuik I don't want it to get a reputation as being scabby. _________________ Cake or Death? |

Was there not also something in the Advertiser the other week about disabled people having problems because the lift kept breaking down? |

I must admit I haven't been up to the (in)famous pool since it opened . . . but since I haven't heard of anyone being happy with the condition of the place, there hasn't been much incentive.
Seems to me it's been a problem ever since it opened. |

Your lucky. at least Penicuik has a pool. Here in Balerno we are stuck with using the school pool. Yes that means the changing room you use has had five classes of teenagers in it already that day. _________________ 'S riogal mo dhream
