Grandchildren are a great excuse, aren't they? You get to play in the toy shops all over again.

Didn't I hear you get a discount if you take along your own genuine medieval partner? |

Sorry I will miss it but will visit Roslyn Chapel during my July visit as My Great Great Grandmother was born in Roslin in 1802.
Have a great Fair.

Have a wander around that area of the village, the castle and the glen It;s really interesting. And while your there, nip into the post office and get a copy of Old Roslin. A smashing wee book of old photographs.
Which part of Australia are you from, by the way? |

Hi Richard. Did any of your ancestors from Roslin have the surname Neil, Hogg, Haig or Fairley?
It used to be said that Roslin at one time consisted pretty much of those four families (as opposed to Four Families --- Roslin wasn't big enough to have a Mafia). _________________

Hi Spry,
None of those names,
My Great Gran X was born Jane Craik in Roslin
in 1802 but in Temple it was spelt Creacke and in Eccles Creak.
In the Tower of Terregles it was the Craig family and in the Penicuik Estate, James Fairbairn was the Factor and Schoolmaster in the 1730s.
So the whole area is of interest and they a just a few of the Great X Grans

The council has also just produced a series of six postcards featuring scenes from Roslin around 100 years ago. They'll be on sale locally when you visit. Enjoy! |

When did the Craig family vacate Terregles, Richard? Was that mid-18th century too? |
