A tech put in an error reporting code that was meant to send out emails if there were any bugs. Apparently something went wrong with that and our Exim was fried (this happened once before).
When I began work I noticed an inbox full of questions about downtime and I had little access to the site. The server techs disabled Exim while I called the programmer to find out where the code was. It was removed and things have since stabilized.
This will NOT happen again. This program was started in my absence without permission as it was suppose to be very minor. With two instances of this program malfunctioning it can no longer be run without me watching for any issues.
I am always concerned about uptime as I love posting on FPB just as much as the next guy and our users deserve the most reliable service possible. You can be sure I will take the necessary steps to prevent this from happening again.
