A new Scottish public record of family history links abroad:
The Registrar General for Scotland is planning to introduce a new public record to be known as the Book of Scottish Connections (BSC).
For the first time, people all over the world, with a Scots connection, will be able to apply (for a fee) for a birth, death, marriage, or civil partnership abroad to be recorded in the BSC held by the Registrar General in Edinburgh (provided that the event has already been registered with the civil registration authorities of the country in question).
A commemorative certificate of the event (and the Scots connection) will then be available from the registration service in Scotland, to be preserved as a part of the family history record.
If you think you might be interested in applying to have an event recorded please let them know by completing the online survey:

You're going to have fun unwrapping that present!
But if you get your order in soon you should get the certs in good time for Christmas. Do it before everybody else reads about the BSC! |

I contacted Registrar General and received a nice reply with lots of info on the new service. However the grandkids wont be getting their certs this year. They are hoping to have the service up and running by the end of 2008. Ive got next years christmas pressies booked! _________________ Keep Youth in your heart and you'll never grow old |

Oh, sorry about that, TattieB - the e-mail I got seemed to suggest it was imminent, or nearly so.
I suppose in the grand scheme of things fifteen months or so isn't a long time. Seems like it though, if you're waiting for something good to happen.
I must say, I've always found the staff at the main Register Office very helpful, so I'm glad to hear they were so quick off the mark with useful information for you. |
