Warning over cancer newsletter
TRADING Standards officers have warned Lothians residents about a business selling newsletters about children with cancer.
Grangemouth-based company Rosebud, run by a man called Bruno Schultz, has been selling the newsletter door-to-door for £3. Officials warned that it could easily be mistaken for a charity.
In 2004, Mr Schultz was accused of collecting around £300,000 for the Moonbeams Children's Charity - but donating only £50,000.
Midlothian councillor Russell Imrie said: "Trading Standards has been alerted to the Rosebud team, which is collecting all over Scotland. It is important to make people aware that Rosebud is a private limited company, and not a charity.
"This means it can decide for itself how much money to donate to charity.
"The advice from Trading Standards is to think carefully before offering money or donations. Rosebud is a business and not a charity."
The newsletter is an A4 sheet with basic facts about cancer and other items, including recipes.

I used to donate to the Moonbeams. A wee lad used to come around each month with the newsletter. Then they stopped. I heard there was a problem with them. Can anyone tell me what happened there? _________________

So far as I remember, they collected an awful lot of money, but the vast majority of it went into somebody's back pocket, not to any charity.
It's not the first time somebody has made money out of pretending to support charities - but I wish I could believe it would be the last. |
