Anyone spotted the new adverts yet? FPB are looking for the best ones to use again, so you will probably see some after the first post in each topic, as well as the ones at the top of the page.
This is because it's the adverts that pay for us to have a free forum, so try not to mind too much.
The adverts are something that your Admin Team have no control over - sorry! But the other recent additions such as the phases of the moon, weather reports and the little games on the right are down to me - so please send all complaints to Zina and Asbo, thanks.
Incidentally, down at the bottom of the right hand panel you'll find a box labelled "Toys-of-the-Day" - there's one main item and four little ones to look at if you like. All the games can be played by clicking on their icons - that will take you to a page where you can either download the game (or other thing) to your own page, as I have done with one game here, or just play them where they stand. They're not the same as our Arcade Games, and there are also Tools and Useful Items like clocks for your browser. No charge, no obligation!

Posted: Tue Nov 13, 2007 4:12 am Post subject: Continued Ad Tests
As we have done in the past, we are testing the ad spot below the first post in a thread. (This ad are exactly like the ad at the top of the forums and will either be an untargeted image ad from Tribal Fusion or a targeted image/text ad from Google.)
Continued ad tests make sure our free services are financially secure. By testing ads we know what type of ads perform best for our network and can therefore limit the amount of ads only to what is needed to keep the service running healthily.
Revenue from these ads are what pay for the great new addons we have in progress, live support, ticket support, new guides, fast servers, etc.
We've had ads here in the past and eventually removed them once we felt we had the information we needed. We are doing the same again now and the ads may be taken off by us once we have our data or removed by you through our regular ad-free payment option. The ad-free option basically pays your forum's costs and dues in place of the ads we place.
Thanks for your continued understanding while we test these ads again. |

Posted: Wed Nov 14, 2007 2:29 am Post subject: Ad Choices! (v2 + v3)
After popular demand, you now have a choice in what type of ads we show on your board.
By default, we show google ads. Either a simple header ad or a header ad and an ad after the first post in a thread (typically done for testing purposes).
now...
You can enable a pop-under instead. This is totally optional. If you prefer a pop-under (seen only once per day per user) instead of always seeing google ads then this option is for you.
A pop-under is not a pop-up. It will not jump in the way of your user and can be easily closed, then they don't see any ads until the next day.
Feel like helping us out more?
You can even enable both ad types. This means in addition to showing the default ads you can opt to allow us to show a pop-under ad (still once per day, per user) as well.
Why would someone do this? This option is for our very loyal members that want nothing more than to help us as much as they can. By enabling both types of adverts you generate the most possible revenue for FreePowerBoards which means we have even more to invest in longer live support hours, special new features, professionally designed themes, etc!
We also have plans in the works to reward users that choose to enable both types of ads. |

Well, we've had the new Google ads for a few days now - so I am going to enable the pop-unders for a couple of days, to see what happens.
You should only see the pop-under once per day - the hope is that these will be less obtrusive (i.e. annoying).
We do have the choice at the moment - so I think it's worth trying them out. We can always get rid of them again if they are more irritating than Google!
If you have strong feelings, please make them known, because otherwise it will be the Admin Team's choice in the end. |

Just to clarify this a bit - sorry, I was getting tired! - you should all now have the choice, in your Profiles, of which type of advert you see when you come to the Forum.
If you use that choice, it helps FPB to see which kind of advert - pop-under or banner - is more acceptable / popular - or at least less annoying . . .
If you don't like what you're getting, you can change back at any time, as long as this trial lasts. |

I don't mind the adverts no matter how they come although I have to admit I don't pay much attention to them. _________________

That's all right - neither do most of us! But they pay for our forum, which is why we have them. |
