· Quote

I have recently acquired a marriage certificate which I think is rather unique in that all the people mentioned: the Bride, Groom, both their fathers and both witnesses are all Flacks. That in itself is pretty unusual for a surname like Flack - something one would expect with more popular surnames such as Smith or Brown - but I do have a couple of others that meet this requirement. What makes this particular marriage so special is that the bride was a widow, meaning not only was she a Flack herself but that she married TWO Flack husbands!

Allow me to elucidate...

In 1922 Albert Flack, son of Elijah Flack and Elizabeth Preston, married Emily Flack, dau of John Flack and Sarah Shanks. Emily was the widow of Albert's brother George whom she married in 1913 but who was tragically killed in France in the First World War just 15 months after they were married. The two witnesses were Alice Rebecca Flack (Emily's sister) and Shadrach Flack (Albert's brother).

It doesn't stop there. Elijah's son Reuben Flack married the Alice Rebecca Flack mentioned above, and Elijah's son Shadrach Flack (the other witness above) married Eliza's sister Lizzie Flack. So four Flack brothers from one family between them married three Flack sisters from another family.

And just to round it off nicely, Elijah's son Alexander Frederick Flack married Ivy Blackwell Flack, Alice Rebecca Flack's illigitimate daughter.

As I said, this has got to be some sort of record  Very Happy

Seems to me Denise that more Flack families should do this and increase the amount of Flacks out there to be found ..  Very Happy.

But its a pretty unique record I do have to say. I think that needs a special frame on your office wall.
