Veteran Julian Joachim scored for Darlington as the Quakers saw off the challenge of Wrexham on the opening day of the season.

Football League new boys Morecambe and Dagenham & Redbridge had contrasting results in their first games.

Morecambe claimed a 0-0 draw at home to Barnet, while Dagenham slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Stockport County.

Bradford 1 Macclesfield 1

Stuart McCall had to settle for a draw in his first league game as Bradford City manager after the Bantams were held to a 1-1 home draw. Francis Green struck first for visitors Macclesfield Town on nine minutes at Valley Parade, with debutant Guylain NDumbu-Nsungu replying for Bradford in first half injury time.

Brentford 1 Mansfield 1

Brentford and Mansfield Town drew 1-1, with Alan Connell scoring on 14 minutes for the home side, before Michael Boulding equalised on 23 minutes.

Chesterfield could not start life down in League Two with a win after claiming a 0-0 draw at Chester.

Darlington 2 Wrexham 0

Kevin McBride opened the scoring for the Quakers at The TFM Darlington Arena on 42 minutes before Joachim secured the points on 72 minutes. But it did not all go Darlington's way as Andy Oates was sent off for the home team for a professional foul.

Grimsby 1 Notts County 1

Grimsby and Notts County could not be separated at Blundell Park. The Mariners hit the net first when Ryan Bennett struck on 12 minutes, but Neil Mackenzie levelled the scores on 29 minutes.

Hereford 0 Rotherham 0

Rotherham battled to claim a point at Edgar Street as Hereford missed good chances to start the season on a winning note.

Lincoln City 0 Shrewsbury 4

After a goal-less first half, Shrewsbury romped to victory at Lincoln with four second half goals, with Andrew Cooke hitting the net twice (52, 81), and goals also from Dave Hibbert (57) and Steven Leslie (82).

MK Dons 1 Bury 2

MK Dons endured a dismal day, going down 2-1 at home to Bury after taking the lead, and also having Drissa Diallo sent off for violent conduct. Keith Andrews gave the home team the lead on 21 minutes, but Andy Bishop equalised for the visitors on 51 minutes and then doubled their lead with a penalty seven minutes later.

Morecambe's first game in the Football League ended with a draw as both teams had opportunities to sneak a winner.

Peterborough United enjoyed a winning start to their campaign at London Road, with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Rochdale. Josh Low opened the scoring on 10 minutes, Aaron McLean doubled the lead on 44 minutes and Danny Crow wrapped up the points on 90 minutes.

Liam Dickinson secured the points for Stockport County at Edgeley Park with a late 85th-minute winner against Dagenham & Redbridge on the visitors' Football League debut.

Paul Mullin sealed the points for Accrington Stanley against Wycombe with a 58th minute winner for the visitors.
