Northampton midfielder Ian Taylor is set to retire after this week's game with Huddersfield.
The 38-year-old, who has made over 550 appearances in his career, is to hang up his boots after Friday's home game with Huddersfield.
Cobblers boss Stuart Gray paid tribute to the former Aston Villa and Port Vale man for the career he has had.
"It is only right that Ian should sign off in a home game where supporters of both his current and previous clubs have the chance to show their appreciation," said Gray.
"He will play a part against Huddersfield on Friday and he will then retire as a professional player.
"He will not be involved in our final game of the season against Doncaster Rovers so we would ask all supporters who wish to pay tribute to Ian to come along to Sixfields.
"He has had a fantastic career. It is rare these days for a player who played at the highest level for so long to continue their career down in Leagues 1 and 2 but that is what he has done.
"His attitude has always been spot on and he has been a terrific example to the younger players we have here."
Ian you a legend buddy - a true Villa fan through and through - no doubt were be seeing more of Ian on the Holte End in the future where he belongs with the faithful
All the best Tayl's |
