Stevenage Borough FC recently did a survey of their fans to see what proportion of them, if any, voted for a change of name. Apparently the reasoning behind it, was that "Borough" sounds like a small club, as if its a part of Stevenage rather than Stevenage's main team.
The survey returned a vote of approximately 1/3 of the fans wanting a change to Stevenage Town or similar names. The club then put out a statement saying that since such a large number of fans were considering a name change a good thing, they would seriously think about it.
Now to me, this is really odd. For a start, I think a football club's name defines the club. Stevenage will always be Boro to me. Secondly, I don't think Borough sounds small, if anything it sounds bigger than town. A borough is surely a larger area? And thirdly, I don't understand the club's response to the survey. 2/3 of the fans voted AGAINST the name change and they say they will have to consider it based on the votes FOR the change. |

They would have got Rovers in the next round, if you remember. So we ended up with your lot instead! |
