Gateshead vs hayes & yeading league fixture was abandoned after a serious injury to one of Gateshead's midefielders. the game was stopped for half an hour while he received treatment and then he ws taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg. The referee then announced the abandonment of the fixture which was 0-0 at the time.
However, according to the BBC report, the Hayes & Yeading manager says that the match was NOT abandoned due to the injury but because the Gateshead players refused to come back on to the pitch after the stoppage.
Initially I thought this was due to the "shock" of seeing a fellow teammate injured but reading between the lines I'm not so sure, call me a cynic maybe
Turns out that Gateshead were already down to 10 men after a prior sending off for a bad challenge but there is no mention of a card for the player involved in the tackle which resulted in the broken leg. Sour Grapes? Sulking? Just had enough?
I don't think a match should be abandoned for an injury and I feel that Gateshead should be punished for theri stubborness. _________________
I think they should be punished too! They should lose the match after refusing to carry on! _________________ "In a world full of United's, City's and Rovers, there is only One Hotspur"
