Ok this maybe a dumb question and I have my own theory but Id like to know for sure. I see on sum trucks that they run either a metal plate or mud flap that pivots from under the core support. what is the official purpose of this, does it work, and will it interfere with the steering linkages? _________________ Broke, but still livin life and havin fun! |

They use them to keep mud out of the motor, and sometimes to help keep the front end on top of the mud. Never used one myself. At pleasant Hill last year I got so much mud into my engine that it bent the fan and shoved my tranny lines into the fan so when I built my Toyota I talked to some people that have used them. Haven't found anyone that thinks it really helps. Some people believe they lose steerabilty and traction with a metal plate because it keeps them on top of the mud and they can't dig down. A mud flap could theoretically end up shoved into your engine fan as easily as mud but would probably do more damage.
