Wonderfully poignant.  I don't know if I've said this yet, but I'll say it now just in case:  You handle the emotional gravity of these situations beautifully.  Seeing characters as human is supremely important, and watching Remy deal with the death of his loved ones and the betrayal of his lover while still trying to put on a brave face for the survivers gives a chance to see that just because he has powers doesn't mean Remy is above being human.  Also it's really nice to see an alternate look at Remy's beginnings, kind of redifining the character while still maintaining his basic framework.

Basically that's a lot of words to say:  Great story.
