Oliver Nome is an up and coming comic artist who is currently studying under Jim Lee. Yes thee Jim Lee who created Gambit. I asked Oliver to use his unbelievable sense of "flava" and fashion sense to modernize Gambit & Rogue with a punk rock style. He did this commission for me the day we finished talking about it and added an insane amount of detail for a background. Let me know what y'all think.
Once I receive it in the mail, I will add it to the gallery. _________________

And dosent Punk Rock pre-date Gambit? >> _________________ I always thought that Rogue and Gambit should adopt that Leech kid from X3.

That is an amazing pic. Dude has some severe talent. I would actually not mind seeing Rogue with that look. I'm not necessarily too keen on Remy's updo, but the rest of him rocks. The wardrobe is cool, and am I spying a soul patch? Because I think would work well on him. _________________ I am Loki Scar-Lip, Loki Skywalker, Loki Giant's Child, Loki Lie-Smith.

Yeah I have to say that Remy without long hair just doesn't seem Remy-like for me! His face appears very angular and sharp which gives him a thug demeanor....... But artistically speaking its an awesome picture and is promising to know that Oliver will be working in comics soon if not already! I certainly dig the background detail! _________________ *

I have to pretty much second what everybody else has said.
This guy has some serious talent, and it is a good thing that he will soon be/is working in comics.
I love the style, and it definitly fits the punk scene, especially the clothes that they are both wearing. I love Remy's Converse and jacket. Hell I love all the clothes.
There are only a few things that I could quibble with this, artistically.
1) Rogue's left leg, the one that is bent behind her, looks like you should be able to see her foot coming out the other side. However it just disappears. The angle is just a little out.
2) Remy's face, as Crimsy said, is a little too angular to be entirely him.
Saying that, it is better than anything I could ever do.
I will admit that although I think the hair suits the punk theme, it just doesn't do it for me. I prefer the longer haired look. But that is just from a personal viewpoint. Artistically the hair is great.
I would love to see this coloured. That would be amazing. _________________ And I sit, endlessly watching the people as they walk below me, knowing that I will never walk among them, knowing I will never live as they have lived and loving them for it.
Bang mon ami, you dead!

so everyone agrees with me that Remy + mohawk = awkward. I left everything up to Oliver and he said this was the most fun he's ever had working on something before. I think the face looks Remy esque. Rogue's leg should appear slightly behind her and the other leg (her right one) should have been at a different angle so that it doesn't just randomly come out of Gambit's shoulder. These are things though that Oliver will be learning under Jim and I'm sure he will improve on as time goes on. Simply put though I love this piece of art. I think the apocalyptic background fits with the punk rock theme. _________________

Yeah, Rogue's right leg threw me when I first saw the picture. I could not figure out what that was sticking out of Remy's torso. But I'm with you, the face, at least to me, looks fine. I think it's the hair that is making Remy's face look different. Either way the guy's an obviously gifted artist. _________________ I am Loki Scar-Lip, Loki Skywalker, Loki Giant's Child, Loki Lie-Smith.

The only thing I'd change is Gambit's face and hair. I'd make his head less angular in the cheek region and try a different punk hairstyle because the mohawk is just kinda weird. |

I reckon if Marvel were doing another alternate dimension punk-era arc then Olivers take on the Romy couple would be fully acceptable!
Just look at mohawk Storm! _________________ *

At first I didn't like the hair because it didn't look like Gambit and shocked me with the change. But now that I have the artwork in hand and hanging on my wall, I have to say the mohawk could fit Remy's personality to a certain degree. Most punk kids that I hang out with have mohawks to push authoritive figures away. That sounds like Gambit's m.o. if you ask me. Gambit has never been one to follow the leader per se, but rather to make his own path. Plus if you're going to do something, do it in style, right?
As for punk rock predating Gambit...I guess bands like AntiFlag, NoFX, Dead to Me, and One Man Army all never existed in the 90s or to this day. Hmm, interesting. You can accept that a man can climb walls in a comic book, but you can't accept a cajun as a punk rocker as a piece of art. _________________

Oooh I can accept it as art (very good art!) and as an alternate Gambit. But, from a ladies point of view, I think Gambit uses his 'pretty boy' looks to an advantage and I think the hard-edged Punk look isn't a look that would charm the ladies or put authoritive figures at ease when he is trying to trick them or get past their security! I think Gambit as we know him needs to blend in not stand out!
Of course thats not a critism to your piece from Oliver! _________________ *

The "pretty boy" aspect of the character is what I dislike the most about him. If you look at any of the earlier issues that he appeared in (even when Jim Lee was drawing him) he didn't have that pretty boy look. Any of the issues of Uncanny from his first appearance #266 (or the Uncanny X-Men annual #14, pick your poison) thru issue #275 of Uncanny has Gambit playing the role of a cocky son of a bitch that thinks he can get with Storm, but he doesn't look like the GQ pinup model he is today. I think that Gambit is one of the few characters that seems to get younger as his comic life grows. Part of the reason why Gambit was able to gain such a quick following wasn't because of his look, but rather his attitude. That's just my opinion and I know I will be greatly outnumbered on this, but I figured I would voice my opinion. _________________

Well, in his first Gambit book he had a more rugged look but I have always percieved him as the 'pretty boy' character from XTAS and his attitude very much fits the ladies man reputation, even as far back as when he was just a baby and all the ladies coo'ed over him! lol
Some of the lesser handsome Gambit drawn issues I have to say I have disliked to a degree as I don't like him drawn non-goodlooking. My all time fave Gambit-look is Joe Mads around the time of the trial when he had very angular features and of course his long hair! (although you're gonna say 'but he always has long hair?' I mean perfect hair!)
When he was all broody (like in Stefs Avatar) I just wanted to (metaphorically) pick him up and squeeze him he was soooo cute! lol _________________ *
