They made his a mutant to avoid cramming even more backstory into the movie. All the non-comic readers would be going "Hey! They made a mistake! His powers still worked!" if they'd done it that way.

Just like everything else, they had to dumb it down for the public consumption.
My mom said the same thing 2.

Yeah, every comic person I know said the same thing.

Ah dumbing down *sigh*

You have to admit it IS necessary though in some cases as when films are made from comic or book sources there's just too much back-story to put in a 120  mins of movie.

They could to it true to the comics. It is possible. The problem is, a lot of people won't go to a movie if they don't get all the in-jokes. So, they generalise to make money.

I agree. And it has made more people read the comics, which is a good thing for us.

One bad thing about it is the change to Wolverine's artwork in all of the comics since the movies have come out. And that change is the fact that they started drawing him taller that his pleasantly runtish 5'2.

Yeah....I don't mind movies adapting for their audience but it so SHOULD NOT effect the original source! I also hated how, when Ultimate X-Men first come out it was clearly a recreation of the movie with the younger Rogue etc...peeved me off and it was only when I heard Remy was in it that I even picked it up at all....right before he was killed that is! Although its grown on me since.

I was the one yelling in the movies saying that's not right!

I'm going with X2.  I think it was the best mix of action (I still get chills over the Wolverine killing spree in the mansion) and story.

And I fully agree about the 'Rogue so far out of character' issue.  I understand the need to use a character to introduce the audience to the X-Men, and I'm sure this will come as little to no surprise to anyone but I think they would have been better off using Kitty as the introduction character.  There would've been no need to screw with her personality, plus the fact that her mutation is purely defensive would have given a good counterbalance to the rest of the X-Men.  They they could have kept Rogue in character and made her an adult member of the team, even if they went with a 'pre-Danvers' version of Rogue.

Yeah...that would make sense considering Rogue has yet to use her power in any positive or skillful way! Although of course I believe for X-1 it was the crucial point to their story, what with Magneto using her to conduit his machine....

But X2 firmly remains my fave for the fight scenes too!

True enough, but who's to say Mags couldn't still abduct Rogue and use her to fuel his machine.  This the intro character could be placed on the rescue mission, and we could see her adjust to playing hero with her non-offensive powers.

Or they could have just come up with a different plot than: Let's utilize a cutesy machine to make everyone a mutant.

There's another important point that makes me lean towards X2 as the best...it's devoid of any "What happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning?" jokes.  Am I the only one still scarred by that?

Awww....everyone's so hard on lil miss Stormy! But yes....its not quite what you'd expect a near-goddess to say! But then I guess they couldn't fit her usual TAS-style commentry into the film!

(ie: "By the grace of the goddess I smite thee Toad with my super-power of lighening until you are as the common toad would be if I were so inclined to smite one down and therefore you are doomed by my eloquent call upon nature!")

YES. YES. YES.

Dude, but that was his finest hour. His moment of glory. He is so in character then its amazing. My toes always curl at the claws through the foot moment.

Nope, he's hot when he's sweating and bloody, even if I do want to drag him into the shower before I get too close. That isn't a bad thing either though...

I'm glad they didn't hold back on the killing and such with that scene. They could have made it a lot cleaner, but they didn't. Very fitting with his personality.

I have to say I was hoping of more of that in X3 but, besides the danger room scene, he wasn't really all that good for me (fighting wise)
