Thanks for this.
It's getting more and more interesting as it is revealed, this story. I'll be picking it up on Thursday along with X-Factor for the next part.
I see what you mean about the villains responses and how surprising some of them were, and how not surprising the others were.
Curiouser and curiouser. _________________ And I sit, endlessly watching the people as they walk below me, knowing that I will never walk among them, knowing I will never live as they have lived and loving them for it.

Sorry i'm late again folks, but i'm here with the most intriguing chapter yet.
When we last left Hank McCoy, he was confronted by the High Evolutionary's personal guards: the Knights of Wundagore.
Beast states to the leader of the knights that he shall not turn back until he speaks with the High Evolutionary. The woman threatens that if he does not, he and his companions will die. They tell him they have standing orders to eliminate all who try to aproach. Beast threatens to bring the X-men and orders the frightened men to retreat, they gladly comply.
Beast asks the cat-like woman if she is related to "White Tiger". She says that that was her brood-sister. Beast tells her that White tiger would have bitten off her tongue before she attacked an unarmed man. She grows and lunges at him, the two begin to grapple, she tells him she shall write his epitaph with his entrails. Beast agrees to help and, being know pushover, sends her flying backwards with the first few letters of his name.
It is then that the evolutionary himself intervenes and agrees to speak to Beast alone.
Deep in one of the Evolutionary's labs, he apologizes to "Professor Wyndham", the status of his race has played hell with his manners. Evolutionary tells him that his real name has no meaning now and Beast should cut to the chase. Beast eloquently states the purpose we are all too familiar with. Mutant kind is dying, and perhaps he can do something about it. Evolutionary questions if he should, even if he can, extinction is a part of life. Beast scoffs at his use of cliche. What Scarlet Witch did was not part of normal life, it was unnatural.
Evolutionary says that it was not too great a tragedy, after all, nobody died, save a few. Beast explains that so many lost who they were, had their futures ripped from them. They are a stump of a species now. Evolutionary counters with the fact that perhapse Wanda was an instrument of nature.
Beast grows rageful, she was nothing but a tortured woman, she did not act through nature or god, only her own suffering. He lunges forward at Evolutionary and passes through him. A hologram. Beast is shocked, is this how little it means to him? Evolutionary explains that he is a very busy man, but he has seen Beasts reserach, kept tabs on him, and he does not believe it will lead to success.
Beast replies that it is obvious, he would not be here if he had the answers, what is he doing wrong? Evolutionary tells him that hes aiming at the symptoms, trying to put out the flames. Beast loses it, asking what he should do if he knows everything, what should he be looking at? Where would Evolutionary start?
Evolutionary soberly replies that he would go to the source, which is impossible. And since this was caused by magic, perhaps science is the wrong way to counter it. He tells him that he should try staying where he is rather than journey to all the wrong places. After all, thats what he told Beasts 'colleague' when he came here, but he could not accept the truth.
Beast asks what colleague came to him, but Evolutionary orders him to be escorted out. McCoy is dragged out begging for help, anything that might help, and as he is led out into the storm, the cat woman speaks again, telling him that life is lent as long as we are fit to recieve it, those who cant adapt will die.
As he walks into the darkness he thinks:
"Wherever you go in the world, you walk on the bones of dead races, crumbled now into dust."

I wonder who the hell this 'colleague' is?
And poor Hank is not finding a lot of help anywhere yet is he.
Very interesting synopsis Lord E. Keep up the good work. _________________ And I sit, endlessly watching the people as they walk below me, knowing that I will never walk among them, knowing I will never live as they have lived and loving them for it.

Alright boys and girls, we have the ultimate belated double-dose summary of Endangered species parts 4 and 5!
Where we left off, Beast was turned away by High Evolutionary and was informed that a comerade of his had came earlier on and asked the very same questions.
Chapter 4 of 17
Beast slowly treks across snowy plains, lamenting on his failure with the evolutionary. But he remains optimistic, and is intruged that he might have an ally in this, but is determined to find a solution.
As Dr. Kavita Rao works, she hears a voice above her, hoping for good news. She looks up and comments on the fact that Beast seems to perfer being upside down. He hops down and comments on how isolated her laboratories are. She comments that her work is soon going to cease being biology and become archaeology, shes obsolete without mutants.
Beast inquires if she has any more dead bodies in her basement, and she tells him that its quite the contrary, shes been trying to make a mutant clone, after all, it has been done many times. Beast scoffs, commenting on the fact that she once deemed mutants a disease, why would she help now?
She replies that her work was to save lives, that the people who wanted the cure came of their own accord , she did not name it 'Hope', the mutants did. Beast turns to leave but she asks him to stop. Tildie, her test subject was a girl whom she cared for, her power destroyed her life, and the X-men saved her life, so perhapse she was wrong.
Beast sighs and comments on the irony, he once considered her cure, and now he needs her hep to save mutant kind, Breakworld had research centuries ahead of them, perhaps they could use it. She says that she made a deal with the devil, that when her research was found to be fake she was exiled from the scientific community. Beast says that even if her research was not her own, her cure did work. She says that theres no use for it anymore.
She opens a chamber to show thousands of vials on racks covering the refrigerated room, they were DNA samples from every person who took the cure, everyone used in its development, and all of them are turned to dust, the X-gene in them simply does not exist anymore.
She tells him shes leaving, returning to India to try and piece back together her life. He can have whatever he wants. He thanks her, quitely. But she warns him, she was a desperate woman when she developed the cure, she wants him to be careful. He wonders what she means, and she clarifies: She knew Ord was a monster, she knew what she did was wrong, but she was desperate enough to do it. She does not want him to suffer the same fate. He tells her bitterly that he is far different from her.
And she replies calmly that she does not have Arnim Zolas phone number. She swiftly exits and leaves Beast holding a file. On the file is scrawled" NEVERLAND"
TO BE CONTINUED
NOW
Chapter 5 of 17
Rao's research has been a blessing and a curse, with no DNA, a conclusion cannot be properly reached, but it has brought to light a great mystery.
Neverland. Everyone heard the rumors from Cable and Chamber, hints, disappearances. Weapon X may have created a concentration camp for mutants, test subjects. Mutantkinds greatest enemy seemed to be Canada. But in this place there might be a bit of hope.
Beast climbs down his perch outside a large facility and works his way inside.
Seven hours ago.
The whole Astonishing gang watches a computer readout of the facility, they exchange biting banter between one another. Beast narrates, Neverland is something the group has to hate, its material, its real, its tactile, but its merely a diversion from what they cant fight, their own demise. They do not see it like he does, like an opportunity, he tells the group he will be going into the deserted camp.
Now.
He climbs over piping and rubble, and sees graffiti on the wall "All muties must burn!" Eventually, he finds his way to one of the labs. It has all been thoroughly sifted through already, this mysterious "other" the evolutionary mentioned, always a step ahead of him. But Neverland kept its records well, journals for every day, they make Beast sick.
Day 582-Disposal of experimental test subjects
A mutant boy, eyes still open in death, is loaded into a body bag.
Day 607-Removal of rotting cadavers.
The body bags are laid out in the open alongside one another.
Day 641-Science division request for additional subjects
A group of mutants are dragged away from the others by giant humanoid machines.
Day 701-Termination of resistance in the yard
A man is severly beaten by the machine men as a group of mutants watch in horror.
Beast trembles at the final file.
Day 724- Neverland facility closure, purge of remaining prisoners.
Mutants are lined at the edge of a great pit. men, women, children, entire families, guns pointed at ther heads, and below them the pit is filled with hundreds of mutant bodies.
Beast drops the files and charges into the courtyard, hands tearing at the soft dirt the now filled the pit. He stammers in horror, trying to comprehend what has happened here, the fact that he didn't know, couldn't do anything about it, he is nearly weeping.
And then a cold voice cuts in. "Henry, Henry, Henry...How touching. I was hurt you didnt invite me to join all your fun... But I know how personal genocide is for us"
Beast gazes up in horror and disbelief "You..." he stammers.
The face of Dark Beast grins sickeningly back at him
"You indeed."

Thank you once again for this.
It's a very interesting story line. I was in fact talking to my local comic book guy about it and he was saying that he was finding it very interesting as well. I wish I'd had more time to talk to him about it actually.
It's weird to see the contrast between Dark Beast, who still looks like the original, and our Beast, who is so feline now.
I also wonder if that was who visited the High Evolutionary prior to this?
And it was good to finally get some closure on the whole Neverland thing. It seems like they are really tying up some of the loose ends that have been left over the years. That bodes well for the future of the comics. _________________ And I sit, endlessly watching the people as they walk below me, knowing that I will never walk among them, knowing I will never live as they have lived and loving them for it.
