Okay, since I have found myself incapable of keeping up with lengthly summaries, i've decided to create a discussion thread where we can discuss current plots in the marvel universe and I can keep people updated (at least on the comics I buy).

So, lets start:

X-men- The team has been crippled by the Marauders, Cable dead at the hands of Gambit and Sunfire. The Acolytes launched an attack on the mansion and it was found that they are eliminating those who can see the future and they wish to obtain the diaries of the mutant Destiny.

Uncanny X-men- By far the most boring. Storm and the team have been searching through sewers to find a group of mutant terrorists from the fractured remains of Morlocks....Oh, and apparently Magneto is coming back...but...yeah..its 4 issues in and nothings happening. Storm is trapped underground and freaking out...and supposedly this member of the morlocks who died predicted something that might lead to a bright future for the mutants....or something...

Astonishing X-men- After finally recovering from their re-entry into breakworld 7 months ago, the X-men launch a daring strike against the launcher that holds a missile big enough to destroy Earth. At the end of the previous issue, a weeping Emma asked the psychotic robot known as Danger to kill her, although, in a shocking turn, this was merely proving to the machine that it is incapable of actually killing the X-men....and so the sultry and intelligent Emma Frost proves once again why I would leave my girlfriend just for one night in her bed....um...anyhoo, Emma strikes a bargain with Danger, and they launch a last ditch assault against the missile launcher, and Cyclops supposedly sacrifices himself to provide a diversion...

New Avengers- So the skrulls are back! And everyone is paranoid. Their jet back to America crashes and Spider Woman grabs the Skrully Elektra and runs off to defect to the side of Iron Man. But they have bigger fish to fry. The Hood has rallied dozens of supervillains to his side to launch an attack on the Mighty Avengers. Wolverine does some reconicance and gets his dong shot off, Echo walks in on Hawkeye in the shower, and Doctor strange is going steady with Night Nurse (so theres no shortage of sexual tension). However, to ease everyones tension, Doctor Strange sets up a spell so everyone will show their true selves to the rest of the team. Turns out Luke Cage is still living in his 70s garb, his wife wants to be a superhero, Spider man is a boy inside, Echo is daredevil, Doc Strange is a total pimp, Hawkeye is Captain America, Iron Fist is a medieval form of himself, and Wolverine is a Samurai. Pity nobody thought about the baby. Now we got a new problem: Hundreds of symbiotes attack NYC, and the New Avengers rush in to aid their 'Mighty' comrades.

Thor- The god of thunder returns....to Oklahoma. Already with a few short days in OK, Thor has resurrected Asgard in all its glory 8 feet above the ground, and goes off to release the souls of his fellow asgardians from the people of the world. But, unfortunately (for Iron Man), Iron Man decides to intervene, and gives him the whole 'Yea, you gotta work for the government now'. BIG MISTAKE. Thor approaches Iron Man and tells him that as if cruelly imprisoning and persecuting people they once called friends was not enough insult, he stole Thor's DNA and created an insult of a copy, and for that Thor shall never forgive him. He easily disables the 'invincible' Iron Man's suit, and then tells him to his face that if he dares try to intervene or anyone from the government approaches Asgard, he will flood Washington DC. He tells Iron Man that he shall stay out of this conflict among brothers, and he suggests that nobody give him a reason to choose sides or he will truly suffer his wrath. Having truly shown the difference between 'a god and a man in a metal suit', he forces Iron Man to walk away in total defeat, and is given diplomatic immunity.

Amazing Spider Man- So Spidey too gets into a scrap with Tony Stark after putting Kingpin in his place. Peter Parker needs money to pay for the treatment of Aunt May, but Tony informs him that he cant or he would become liable. However, as an act of goodwill to a former protegee, he instead hands Jarvis a sum big enough for him to pose as a relative to Aunt May. So now it seems things are looking up for Peter, after all, 2 million is enough to pay for the best of treatment. The problem? They cant do anything for her. Aunt May will die, but Spider Man intends to go to the gates of hell to stop it.

X-men: Emperor Vulcan- Finally, we pick back up with the lost X-team. Havok has proven as great a leader as all the men in his family, slowly gaining advantage over the Shiar Empire, who is nearly in open revolt against the non-Shiar Vulcan. But when Vulcan leads the Starjammer's fleet into a trap, a new enemy chooses to appear, a race so powerful the two foes may have to unite to stop it.

X-Factor: So the beaten and de-powered Quicksilver is out to kill Layla, either Monet or Siryn is preggers with Maddrox's son, and the mysterious 'Isolationist' who plans to have Mutants given the benefits of being a 'bona fide endangered species' turns out to be a deadlier thread, stranding the better part of our heroes in Antartica

Avengers: The Initiative- Kids forced to be heroes because of who they are, cruel, but common in this world. As Hulk rips shit up, a squad being lead by the deadly new hero 'Trauma' try to take the Hulk on. Meanwhile a mysterious superhuman 'cure' has arisen, and shows just how sinister the new registration act may be.

So, any thoughts?

Alright folks, got myself two new comics this week, and neither have I summarized yet.

New X-men- Okay...I know there are some lovers of this comic here, but I'm not exactly one of them...I just never could quite get into it. Anyway, kids are wigging out on who will die next, the senior X-men are trying to become better acquainted with the kids, the artwork sucks, and Elixir has issues....thats pretty much all I got

Captain America- Ed Brubaker makes up for the suckage in Uncanny with this gem. Probably the only comic to get ten times better after the death of its title character. Sharon Carter, haunted by the fact that she aided in the murder of Cap (due to the hypnosis of Doctor Faustus) has teamed up with The Falcon to track down a rogue Bucky (AKA Winter Soldier), who is out to get Tony Stark. Meanwhile Red Skull, the engineer behind the assassination, has sent his daughter, Sin, to form an elite cobra squad to strategically take out SHIELD outposts, causing a great deal of chaos for Mr. Stark, whos currently split between the concern of stopping Winter Soldier and stopping Sin, all the while coping with the fact that he signed the death warrant of his best friend. With this issue comes some shocking revelations:

Winter Solider is captured by Red Skull and is likely to be brainwashed by Doctor Faustus

Sharon Carter is pregnant with Cap's son, and is still deeply under the control of Doctor Faustus

Black Widow, originally sent as an agent of Tony Stark to hunt down Winter Soldier, has teamed up with Falcon as they are on common purpose, however, when they go to meet Sharon, she shoots them both.

The letter that Tony Stark has been pouring over is the last wishes of Captain America, it tells Tony that he must first prevent Bucky/Winter Soldier from falling to the dark side again, and he must also not let the name of Captain America die, the world needs that name now more than ever.

And lastly, a full update on Endangered species:

When I last left us off, Beast had just come face to face with Dark Beast. However, instead of fighting, Dark Beast offered his services and knowledge, they both have the same purpose. So the two set out to try and find a cure. However, it has not gone well, most blood and tissue samples are completely useless, even corpses of mutants dead years before M-day contain not a trace of the gene. Time after time, they try a new possibility and find themselves at a dead end. At one point, he partners up with Bishop and found a 'power dealer' in Mutant Town, mutants can donate their blood, that blood can be made into a serum which temporarily provides whatever person who takes it with that power. Unfortunately, even then the dealer's stash has been all but eliminated due to M-day, when he offers Beast a chance to donate his blood and make a good bit of money, he is overcome by rage and attacks the man, dangling him out a window. Beast realizes how close he is to breaking, losing his mind, his list of options grows shorter by the second. Net he goes to Forge, noticing that all Mutants from other dimensions seem to have retained their powers (Bishop, Cable, Sugar Man, Marvel Girl, and Dark Beast to be precise), so logically, those other realities must not have been affected.

The news is grim: Using a device to scan other realities from the X-gene, we find that they all have flatlined, Age of Apocalypse, the world of Nimrod, even the horrific reality of XSE (where Bishop came from), they either don't exist or no mutants remain in them. Beast goes into a rage, and even goes so far as to strike Forge across the room, denying his claiming, that it cannot be possible.

Following that, they begin a new approach, if they cannot find an X-gene, they can make one.

And so they go to the home of the Guthries, who have birthed 5 known mutant children. As Beast explains to mother Guthrie about the circumstances of their visit, Dark Beast presents one of the un-powered guthrie boys with an un-tested serum that, as Dark Beast says, may give him powers. The boy, naive as he is, begs for the serum. As Mother Guthrie rejects Beasts preposal, claiming it to be immoral, a screaming is heard outside, the family and beast rush out to find the boy in Dark Beast's arms, eyes bleeding, skin bubbling, Dark Beast once again reiterates his mantra to Beast: Sacrifices must be made for science to move.

I must say, Endangered Species has really picked up, its scary to see Beast pushed to the edge, a calm and collected fellow, struggling with his all-too human inner 'beast'.

Well, thats it for this week, next week we got more Avengers: Initiative and X-men #203, and the following week Uncanny X-men with the (hopeful) return of Magneto.

New X-Men is normally slightly better than this weeks. I have to admit, as much as I love the series, I didn't think much of it. And don't get me started on the artwork *vomit*.

Captain America sounds pretty good. I'm not reading it myself, but I'm keeping up with the gossip thanks to people like you Lord E.

As for the post last week.

Uncanny is sending me to sleep. Nothing's happened in like 3 issues except a lot of wangsting from various people. I can't wait until the crossover since we should get some action then.

I'm waiting with baited breath for this weeks issue of X-Men. Kaz is getting to the point where if I say "guess what thursday is" one more time she'd going to disown me Smile It's by far my fave of the four that are going to be present in the big crossover.

I'm also really enjoying X-Factor, which I only got into recently.

Emperor Vulcan has potential. I hated Rise and Fall, but this follow up has potential. Now if only they weren't doing a What If! for Rise and Fall (don't believe me, check out the most recent question thing on comixfan).

I'm liking Astonishing as well. It's horribly released, but when it actually comes out it's mostly worth the wait. I like Scott being more bitter and less stick-up-his-assy.

As for the others I can't say, since I'm not keeping up with them.

Great idea though Lord E, thank you.

Oh and Endangered Species rocks my socks right now.

Every issue of Uncanny I have picked up for this arc, I have flipped to the last page to see if they have Magneto making his big cliffhanger re-appearance in the last frame, and its just like....In all honesty, I never developed an attachment to Storm, and I dont read FF, and I dont care about the Morlocks much either, its just like...come on, skip the over-indulgent foreplay and bring on Magneto, like you promised!

Its frustrating because I know Ed Brubaker can tell a great story by moving it slow, but slow doesnt work when it comes to characters as firmly established as the X-men.

In fact slow is more likely to bork things than anything. Yeah I totally agree. I've not read any of Brubaker's other work but I've not liked any of his X-Men stuff so far.

The worst thing is that I like Storm. She could be doing so much better than that marriage and being pedalled off to other books. Ah well, what can you do *shrug*

Alright folks, its hit, X-men 203. And some big shit goes down in the final chapter of the "Blinded by the Light" arc.

Our issue kicks off with Kitty and the New X-men team struggling to revive Blindfold with the aid of an emergency medical hologram of Beast (Very funny for a Trek fan). Midway through, Emma enter's Kitty's mind and explains the situation: Kitty hid the diaries and Emma wiped the location from her mind to be safe.

Meanwhile, back with Sam and Bobby, they have been given the location: An abandoned facility in Flint Michigan. They know that Sinister and the Marauders are tracking them, but if the dont get the diaries before Sinister it may spell their doom. As the two make their way through the facility, they find that the diaries are now buried under tons of rubble.

Outside the ruins of Mystiques house, Emma, Cyke, Beast, and Wolvie, begin to discuss their fates. Emma has almost recovered from the neurotoxin, but does not want to talk for fear of drooling. Kitty and Pete are coming to pick them up, but they will not reach Bobby and Sam in time to provide backup.

As Sam and Bobby sift through the rubble, they hear the marauders tearing through things to get to them, they prepare themselves to fight.

The Marauders, Mystique and Gambit included drag Sunfire from the Blackbird. It appears Sunfire is not too happy with Mystique leading them, however he tells her that the X-men are likely after the diaries. Mystique orders Scalphunter to form two teams with her and split up. Scalphunter, also not too happy about Mystique leading them, goes with his Marauders, leaving Mystique with Lady M, Gambit, and Karima. Lady M cryptically comments that "This will be fun while it lasts".

The group of Maraduers crashes into the lower chambers only to be somewhat ambushed by Cannonball, who drags Riptide away from the group.

Back with the other group, Karima detects Bobby and Sam coming at them fast. Gambit comments on how they are choosing to die like men. Mystique retorts that she looks forward to him making the same choice. Before they can act, Cannonball crashes in, carrying a flailing riptide, who he then throws down, taking out Gambit, Karima, and Lady M. Bobby and Sam meet up and then barrel down on the surprised Marauders, knocking them down and then freezing them.

Using their bought time, Cannonball melts some of Bobby's ice, causing the airtight container holding the diaries to float above the rubble.

As Blindfold hangs in the balance, Kitty prepares to defibrulate her, she springs to life again. They are at first relieved, but then her message comes: Hes coming, somebody has to warn them!

As Bobby and Sam make their hasty retreat, they are swatted out of the air by Sinister, who wonders why he bothers delegating if he must do everything himself. The marauders appears behind him. As Iceman crawls for the box containing the diaries, Mystique shoots him repeatedly, chipping ice off him, as she puts it, his intentions are good but he fails in performance. As cannonball begins to dust himself off, Gambit stands poised above him. Scalphunter tells him to move so he may kill him, but Gambit does not, he and cannonball exchange a glance (Cannonball seems horrified, he springs for the box, Scalphunter shoots and misses, and Gambits card swerves and strikes both the diaries and Cannonball. Sam is injured, the diaries destroyed.

Scalphunter complains that he told Gambit to move, and Gambit counters that Scalphunter threw his aim off, Sinister tosses Scalpunter aside and grabs Sam. He explains that this is a terrible setback. While they do know the outline of what is about to happen, they no longer have any precise dates, places, or names. He graps Sam by the neck and says that hes erasing his mind so that the X-men will be left with an empty shell. However, Iceman comes too and blasts Sinister,  sending him flying and dropping Cannonball.

Cannonball goes off like a cannon and tears through the marauders before flying out. Iceman meanwhile dives hunderwater to escape. Scalphunter tries to pursue, but Mystique stops him and decides to do it herself.

As Bobby crawls out of the water, he finds Mystiques gun at his head. He tells her he was going to ask how she can live with herself, but he knows its the wrong question because she doesnt know who she is anymore, she no longer schemes, shes just a rabid killer. Mystique seems taken aback ,but regains composure. She tells him that he has no idea the kind of person she is. She gives him none of her sympathy for how she used him. However, she will spare his life this one time. But if she sees him again, flesh or ice, she will kill him. Hes the only X-man who ges the courtesy of a warning...or a choice: stay away from what is to come and you may live.

Bobby stumbles back to the jet to find Cannonball strapped in, not concious, he starts up the jet and flies away as Blindfold speaks to her comerades:

"The Light fades, Ms. Pryde. But we're still blind. The battle eats the soldiers. The road maps hide the road. Johnny's coming home, but hes not marching. I dont see how he could march after being blessed like that. And the mother will cry, and the machine will sing. And we'll all go running to our places. If we can find our places...In the Dark."
-----

Okay, so no Gambit and Rogue, however, we do have a clue to Gambits loyalties, and I will tell you all what I said on Mike Carey's blog:

But I feel the destruction of the Destiny diaries to be extremely significant for Gambit. Frankly, although I am very biased, there are a few things I know definitely about Gambit: He is no bumbling idiot, and hes not one to miss his target.

I've seen Gambit hit a tiny wire on a nuclear device from 20 feet away, he was just a couple of feet away from Sam when he made that shot, it would be nearly impossible for him to miss. Furthermore, if the Destiny Diaries are as vital and important to Sinister's plans, he would also be smart enough not to risk it.

So, like any good fanboy, I might just go ahead and rip into hardworking Mr. Carey here for 'ruining' my favorite X-man, however, I prefer to go the way of logic and say that Gambit did not miss. Had those diaries not been destroyed Sinister would have got them, and the X-men would have no chance at all of stopping whatever plans he has made. In this single 'miss' he gave the X-men a fighting chance. Frankly, that cant be an accident.
--------

Think about it.

Oh, and there was a new Avengers initiative and Endangered species, but this takes priority.

Dude. Wow.

I agree with you that Remy wouldn't miss like that. So it appears he might be either working against Sinister from the inside, or playing both sides against each other. It's going to be interesting to find out.

It makes sense that his meeting with Rogue be in the issue with them on the cover (#204) and I wonder if we'll get any more hints to his loyalties then.

Thanks for this Lord E, it is very very appreciated.

Isn't it just.

I've finally got my own copy of this and even more so now I think that Remy did what he did deliberatly. Those two panels, with Sam and Remy looking at each other speak volumes more than any words. That and the way he blames Scalphunter.

It's also interesting that in his entire history in the comics (including the BoA arc) he's missed all of like three times, and once was because of a weird spatial shift. I doubt Carey would have him start now.

On another note, has anyone noticed the inconsistant colouring of his eyes or is it just me?

Plus theres kinda the fact that Cannonball was about five feet away from the books when he could have made the shot. It just wouldnt fit if he was all on sinisters side, I hope we learn more about the heirarchy in 204

Yeah, he could have hit Cannonball so easily and not hit the box but he chose to hit it and destroy the diaries. It was his choice.

Well, Mike finally replied to my post:

"LordEvan, I can't comment on your hypotheses, but I like the way your mind works. Smile"

Which, if I use my Mike Carey decoder ring means: This is just as significant as you think it is.
