okay so over at IGN they're doing a 13 part look at messiah complex, which leads up to the relase of the one shot on october 31st. its on day 2 as of this first post. On day one there was a particularly interesting mention of Gambit and how he came to be in this:
Quote:
With little apprehension about returning Marvel's mutants to a story style they made infamous, we had to ask if "Messiah" actually evolved from a single-title plot. "We knew going in. The inciting incident of this event is simply too big to contain in one title," clarified Alonso. "The process was remarkable organic. Going in, the only thing we weren't sure about was whether X-Factor would have a role in the story. We didn't want them to be redundant. And they're not."

Nick Lowe agreed about the organic process. "When we went into the retreat, the story grew and characters fell into roles. We talked about what the main characters would do if this happened and let them lead the way. One of the biggest surprises was who stepped into the spotlight. We never expected Rictor to take a big role, but it just made sense for his character. Same with Caliban. And Gambit. We knew we wanted Gambit to be in this, but his role grew more than I ever thought it would. He just became necessary to the story in ways that I couldn't have predicted."

Day two mainly talks of how the crossover came to be and what it'll be like. to sum up:
1. there are three camps: SAVE the baby, EXPLOIT the baby, and KILL the baby.
2. It'll be 90's style, with charecter mix and match and recap pages.

thoughts?

Wow.

Yay for Gambit grabbing some writer by the balls and demanding to be necessary.

And there are 4 camps (EAT the baby) Smile

It's looking to be damn interesting, and I have to admit that I'm really psyched about MCX. From what I've heard there has been a lot of planning involved both in what is going on during the crossover and what happens afterwards (which was one of my biggests hates about HoM). I'm waiting with pretty baited breath to find out who is going to be on which side, who is going to survive and who is going to turn traitor.

I like the fact that it's going to be a proper, old fashioned 90's crossover with everything you mentioned, and the fact that they've actually built up to this one rather than just dumping it on us in one issue (Civil War anybody?)

you know who they are thinking turning into a traitor...

Do you think old style 90's is as bad as the Amine theme they are trying to do now?

Not a clue who the traitor is going to be. It could end up being anybody.

As for the old style 90's, I don't think they mean the artwork. I think what they mean is the way of telling the story, where every issue contains all the characters and the main storyline, instead of X-Men only dealing with whats happening to the X-Men, X-Factor dealing with X-Factor, etc. I think it's going to be great.

As for the art, I'll wait and see on that one. Some of the previews look really good (and not at all mangaish) but until I hold the final product I'm not going to judge one way or the other.

More interesting stuff from the 13 Days article, this time on the artwork side. It's pretty much the same artists that have been working on the 4 titles for the last few months but some of the internal pages are looking good. Especially this one from X-Men #205:

It looks like Wolverine and Gambit are going to be facing off (lower panels). Hopefully it should be a lot clearer once it's been coloured.

they really mean 90's style. When's the last time you saw Wolvie v. Gambit, and moreover, gambit reacting well to him and actually looking like an even fight. shiyot.

That would be the 90's I believe.

I'm so psyched for this, and #204 hasn't even come out yet. It's looking like Remy is going to be playing quite a significant role in this little gem, and hopefully we'll finally have the whole reasoning behind joining Apocalypse and how he got de-Deathed explained to boot.

I'm just really hoping that he i) makes it out of the crossover alive, if not in one piece, ii) doesn't go back into limbo at the end and iii) actually acts like Remy (even if he is brainwashed/whatever).

two more pages up. link to them is up top in the first post. THE most interesting thing IMO to come out of these is here:

must say, quite a strong cover.

I think you took the words right out of my mouth.

The fact that he's looking kinda-dead with a pile of kinda-dead X-Men does indeed point towards a side. We can only hope that it isn't one of those truely misleading covers. Dude!!!!!!

Edit: Frontpaged.

^Same.

I'm excited for this.  I was totally talking to a friend the other day about how I missed the early 90's stuff.  (So I wasn't a comic fan during the early 90's, I couldn't read...but from the stuff that I've read that was written in that period I really like it.)  So doing the 90s style stuff sounds super awesome *does a happy dance*

day six talks about the purifiers, AKA the group that Gambit was kicking the shit out of 5 at once in that pick. apparently they're actually pretty tough according to this artice, which, in my narrow minded fanworld, makes gambit more badass.  Cool
