Alright keeping with the original theme of the thread...what do we think would do better...pretend they came out at the same time.
x-men origins: wolverine
OR
x-men origins: gambit
Now taking into account that Wolvie has had far more exposure than Gambit... which would do better at the box office?
On the one hand people are familiar with wolverine from the x-men films...but on the other gambit is someone people have been anticipating for a loooong time...and those who don't know him get to see something fresh from the x-verse.
What do you think? |

Begrudginly I'd have to say Wolvie would get the bigger ratings and audience! Cos of the XM movies he is know to those that have never picked up a comic (or seen TAS!)
Gambit, although eagerly awaited by us undying loyal fans, would lack the extra he would need to bring in the money (so to speak) unless he was first introduced in X4 or the Wolvie movie and was a huge hit with a big demand to see more! _________________ *

I agree that wolverine would probably do better...
However I think that Gambit would still make millions...there is an insane number of people who know who he is and want to see him...even those who don't read comics or watch cartoons.
The name x-men in and of itself will bring out fans and could you imagine a preview with him fighting a dozen members of the assassins guild or some such thing. With the right publicity it would do amazingly at the box office.
I only say wolvie would do better because it's true that more people know who he is and like Jackman in the movies. |

Do you really think so? You know the worse thing they could do is get a big name star in cos although the name might bring in viewers it would be hard to accept them as 'Gambit' (picture someone like Keanu or Depp) and its is perhaps less likely that they would do more films...I would like to see a super-hot but lesser known actor take on the part and therefore BEcome Gambit in essense, if you know what I mean! _________________ *

I really do!
I noticed on marvel.com that his bio is in the top ten most looked at in all of the marvel universe! As well, "The Gambit Appreciation Thread" is one of the most replyed to/looked at forums on their site...so obviously there are tons of Gambit fans that will want to and have been waiting to see him in a movie.
Besides just the Remy fans though, there are x-men fans who will go to see the movie just because they love x-men.
People don't read comics/watch the cartoons but have seen X1, 2, and 3 who liked those films might also want to see something new from the x-verse.
Besides all of those people though, there are just regular movie fans too whom have no idea who Gambit is but will go to see the movie because they want to sit in the theatre and watch something interesting.
With the success of nearly all of Marvel's recent movie endeavors I'm thinking that a Gambit movie would do quite well...I'm also thinking that there are lots of people who just like superhero films who will go see it and others that will see it just to see some black and red eyed guy beat the crap out of people with a staff and martial arts skills!
Anyways Crimmy, I totally agree with you about Keanu or Depp and any other more highly known actors - that would be a little weird...They should get someone unknown or mildly famous - no one who has been in any kind of franchise before!
(BTW he must be insanely HOT!) |
