That was very well done. An essay that was enjoyable to read? Pretty sure that's the 5th sign of the Apocalypse. But seriously you obviously did some solid research there. I'm just curious, and if you would rather not it's no big deal, but would you be willing to tell what grade you got on it?
One thing I'd like to point out the the world at large: 'Chere' is to be directed toward males. For females the proper word is: 'Cherie'. I know, I know, not a big deal, but it bothers me that the writers just keep right on marching it out there with no concern for correctness.
I'll stop now. |
I'll probably find out what my instructor thought of it today, so sure, I'll let you know.

Yeah, in normal french it's the same way. I didn't actually know how it was in Cajun French. |

I recall Gambit saying in Paris that his 'french stinks' which I suppose is his nod to the differences between cajun and French, however subtle to the unaccustomed ear! (and probably the writers covering their mistakes too!) _________________ *

no its pretty different. Most african americans speak english, and most africans speak a native language. However, Cajuns speak French, as do the french. the only difference is dialect, similar to how american english and english english differ (as we've seen from time to time on this site. ) _________________ He doesn't do this often, become a fighting machine. Ok, I went and did some digging (been a while since French class, so I needed a bit of a re-up anyway), and this is what I found. In French 'cher' has two meanings. It can mean, as I thought it did, 'expensive'. It also means 'dear' in the masculine sense. Chere is, as you both pointed out, 'dear' in the feminine sense. 'Cherie' means 'darling'. And I'll bet that means not much to you two, since you had it right, but for me, it's nice to finally have all that straight. The writers weren't wrong; I was. But now I know, and knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOOOOOOOEEEEEEEE! So this was for a class project? Oh okay...
I think it is a very interesting culture and how much his culture relates to "Hill Jacks" is interesting. It would be fun if someone would do a laterial study of all the subcultures in the country....i know its alot but it would be interesting to see how even in though the cultures are in different locations how they are similiar... it might be because the country as a whole is sooo...mixed! that all the different nationalities produce these beautiful subcultures. it's great...it's a sociologist's dream. _________________ RIP Heath |

Alright, I got my paper back, and my instructor doesn't do traditional grading so I'll post what he wrote at the end of the paper:
Well done.
Very well done.
Easily the best* project I've received in the last few years, and an impressive example of obvious hard work and thoughtful preparation.
*When I say "best," I mean clearly written, smoothly organized, credibly researched and referenced, and just very interesting.
Can you e-mail me a copy so I can use it as an example? |

As far as heady praise from a teacher goes, that's about as good as it gets. That's awesome. Congrats, Kitty. _________________ I am Loki Scar-Lip, Loki Skywalker, Loki Giant's Child, Loki Lie-Smith.

Well deserved remarks Kitty! It pays off to combine work with what you are passionate about! And I agree with the teacher that even without knowing who Gambit is it is a very interesting article into Cajuns! _________________ *
