What has changed? Nothing. Except the main signs in the park and the trashcans, oh yeah, the park maps...oh, and there was nobody there.
I drove into that parking lot, looking at the empty ride side lot, not mown, not cared for, sad. The WWK side lot, really thin parking. Two rows of cars on either side was about it.
Nobody on the walk in, no crosswalk attendant, no traffic to watch for. One or two walking through. I was alone in Tradewinds on both occasions I was inside.
One attendant at the gate looking lonely. To be fair it was about 4pm, but it was a beautiful day, hot with mild wind and not humid. Went in and had ..but I no trouble moving around. Took photos and saw that nothing has changed. Still an overdone waterpark. Even the labels on the wave pool said "Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom" All the merchandise in the shops was OLD stuff, although they kept the least references to the rides in the shops with current prices.
My heart broke when I got to the bridge. A white fence stops anyone from going across, but everything that's left is still there. The Americana, the Big Dipper, The Villian, The Double Loop and even a little of RWB. The scenes that got me however were the empty Texas Twister space, and well, the Dominator station..stunning.
The defining moment for me was the lounges under the stadium. On a Saturday, nice day, about the same time last year, you couldn't get one. This year, there were three taken. THREE. In fact, by the wave pool, I remember most being filled, same thing. Few and far between. Nobody it seemed was doing the cabana thing either.
I remember Wildwood in Olmsted Falls. I remember that place usually being busy. Here was a park that was four or five times bigger, and nearly empty. There was a wait for the funnel water slide but it was on the first stairwell from the top. Other than that, plenty of tubes for the lazy river and the waterslides. In fact, the only place showing major signs of life were the wave pool and the big kiddie area with the bucket that dumps. *snicker* Shows you how much I'm up to date on the names of the water slides.
Most of the stand alone food stands were shuttered. There was a tall fence standing after the restrooms leading to Happy Harbour and the Lego Racers theater. That killed me too. They did have energy saving motion sensors installed in the johns, apparently they kept these open as the restaurant across from them is used for private parties now.
From this point, I high tailed it out of there. I was stunned, but so it goes. I walked into Tradewinds and saw the head of Geauga Dog being sold for $500!!!!!!!! It was dirty and patched up, poor condition for a generic mascot head...... $500??????? I picked up some Dominator rubbish and a GL Tee that I almost bought last year. Half price. Woohooo.
I don't need that kind of bummer. I didn't even stop to take pictures of the ride side like I'd planned. It was off to Caribou Coffee for a frozen coffee and goodbye. Maybe I shouldn't have gone so I'd have memories, but now I'm ruined. Anybody that truly loved GL, I'll say, stay away. CF killed something they shouldn't have. Can't be sore forever. Goodnight. Onward to coaster love. Sure that means CP and other CF properties, but I will not spend anything there..except for KI.... |

Wow, its shocking...sad and I knew it would happen, but it really makes you sad inside. At least you saw what was left of the place. I'm telling everyone that this place won't be there for long. Its going to close just like it should have. I do think the only reason they kept the waterpark open was to keep the tradewinds shop open for the only profit they will make. _________________ Geauga Lake I will miss you! |

Hahaha - wait let me guess, there running out of room? People aren't paying the extra charge because they already got ripped off in other areas? The slides are old and no one is riding them?
WWK really needs "new" 20 year old slides that no one wants to ride anymore. I can see it now, "well we installed many new attractions and still no one came, we are unfortunately going to have to close WWK"
Kinzel was supposedly at WWK July 10th. Anybody see him? _________________ Greed is what caused GL's demise and that just makes me sick. Lets do what we can to rat out Kinzel - hes a snake.
In the end the truth will come out and we will then see whos laughing at who. |

| I was at WWK yesterday afternoon and the only one I saw walking around was the new GM Colleen walking around with someone. No sign of Herr Kinzel. |

| I keep seeing this white haired man in a white shirt and tie. It isn't Dick. Any idea who he is? I have no idea who Colleen is, but this man always looks important. |

I believe the man you are referring to's name is Dave. You would see him walking around alot when the ride side was open. He was very present during the auction as well. _________________ On September 21, 2007, a historic 119-year old amusement park had been secretly murdered. Never forget it. |

I remember Dave, he tailed me for a good while at the Preview Day. I think he thought I was going to try to steal the Big Dipper or something. I finally did a 180° spin to run into him on purpose and asked him where the nearest porta-potty was. That was the only way to shake him. |
